(Y/N POV - the next day)
You yawn and check your phone, its almost 8PM so you decide to call it a night. You text Loki while you are shutting down your laptop. He responds quickly, telling you he is in the kitchen on the common floor with Thor.As you get closer to the Kitchen, you can hear Thor, Steve and Bucky laughing loudly. You come into the room to see Loki leaning on the counter, rolling his eyes at some joke Thor made that the others thought was hilarious. Loki looks up and as soon as he sees, you his expression changes and he smiles as he comes over to you.
“Hi Y/N,” he wraps you in a hug and kisses you.
“Hi Mischief, sorry I missed you at lunch today. Hill wanted an updated list of the files that were copied,” you hug him back.
“Don’t worry about it, I know you are busy,” he tells you.
“Awww, so adorable,” Steve says in a bit of a mocking tone.
“Hi guys,” you laugh, acknowledging the rest of them when Loki lets you go briefly.
Thor waves and gives you a big smile as usual. “Oh Thor, I actually have a random question for you,” you say as the thought pops back into your head.
You can tell Loki would rather be somewhere with less people. He moves to stand behind you, his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him. You put your hands on his arms and smile, whispering to him that you can both leave in a minute. He nods slightly and rests his chin on your shoulder.
Steve and Bucky start pulling snacks out of one of the cabinets, they offer you some but you tell them you are good. Thor turns back to you, “What did you want to ask me?”
“Oh, right... well it’s kinda dumb,” you say. You didn’t really want to have this conversation around so many people but oh well.
“I’m sure it’s not dumb Y/N, what is it?” he says.
You clear your throat and ask, “Ok... so, you’re the God of Thunder right?”
You hear Loki groan behind you and you try not to giggle but you love when he is annoyed. You just can’t help it.
“Yes,” Thor answers eyeing you curiously.
Steve and Bucky have now rejoined the conversation, eating their snacks at the island next to Thor.
“And... isn’t thunder just a sound?” you practically cringe at yourself for asking.
Thor looks at you a bit confused but he nods. “Well, I mean you make lightning right? And thunder is the sound of lightning so..." you stop yourself halfway through your thought.
Steve and Bucky start laughing and shaking their heads, you are pretty sure they know where you are going with this. Thor is still just looking at you, waiting for you to finish your question.
"Wouldn’t it make more sense if you were the God of Lightning then?" you finally say.
You can feel Loki shaking slightly against your back as he laughs a bit. It's now Thor's turn to roll his eyes, he lets out a deep sigh.
"She makes an interesting point," Bucky agrees.
"No she doesn't," Thor says defensively.
"I've never even thought about that before. But God of Thunder sounds better then God of Lightning," Steve says with a shrug as he starts to clean up a bit.
Thor puts his hand on his face, "This might the most ridiculous thing someone's ever asked me."
Bucky smiles, "Well it's definitely a very Y/N question. We've gotta head back upstairs but let us know if you change your name, Lightning."
"There's nothing to change. I'm the God of Thunder," Thor sounds a bit annoyed as the two of them leave. He turns to you and then looks at Loki. You pull Loki's arms around you tighter as if you could hide there.
"Its a valid question brother," Loki says with a grin.
Thor mumbles something you can't quite understand, probably in Asgardian and leaves shaking his head.
You laugh now that you and Loki are alone. "I really did think it was weird..." you say, looking up at him.
"He's very sensitive about his title," he says as he lets go of you. Taking your hand he leads you down the hall. "There is actually a reason though, if you are still curious," he says while you wait for the elevator.
You nod so he tells you, "Midgardians know that thunder is just a sound but they used to think thunder was the destructive part and lightning was a signal or result of the thunder."
"Oooh... that actually makes sense,” you think about it.
“You can still call him Lightning though, it really bothers him for some reason,” Loki says with a smile as you get in the elevator.
(Y/N POV - three days later)
You close the file you were reading and put it in the pile on the other side of you desk. You rub your eyes and open the next file, skimming the first page you are interrupted by a loud beeping noise. You look up, not sure what the sound is.“Holy crap, it worked,” you say out loud. You turn your laptop to face you and see the pop-up message is blinking in time with the beeping. When you click on it, a map opens showing a small red dot. You grab your laptop and walk as quickly out of your office.
You knock on Hill’s door and before she can finish telling you to come in you are already inside her office. Your laptop is still beeping and you carry it open to her desk, placing it in front of her.
“Y/N, what’s going on?” she asks confused.
You point at the screen, “We found him.”
She looks up at you and then back at the screen. “I’ll call Fury, we need to send someone to pick him up before we lose him again,” he says picking up her phone. You sit down while she makes the call, you can feel your heart pounding in your chest.
“Fury, we need to mobilize a team to pick up a target. Y/N found Marc Williams,” she says. You can’t hear what he says back but she nods several times and gives him the location. They discuss a few details and then she hangs up.
“They're sending Thor and Loki to go get him,” she tells you. She gets up and you close your laptop. “Feel like coming to the command center to watch them pick him up?” she asks.
“Absolutely,” you say with a smile. As you follow her, you take out your phone to send Loki a quick text before he leaves.
(Loki POV)
FRIDAY interrupts your training session with Thor, stating that you are both needed in the conference room to be briefed on a mission. When you get in the elevator your phone buzzes. You take it out and see a text from Y/N.Y/N :: Mischief, we got a location on Marc. I know you’re a God and all but I just still wanted to tell you to stay safe. I’ll see you as soon as you get back :)
You smile as you read the text and Thor catches you. “Y/N I’m guessing,” he says as he nudges you in the rib with his elbow.
You roll your eyes a little but tell him yes.
"It really looks like things are going well with the two of you," your brother says.
"They are," you tell him and you can feel yourself smiling as you look at the ground.
He pats you on the back, "Good... she’s a bit odd but I like her. I don't think I've ever seen you this happy before."
Fury and Tony are waiting for the two of you in the conference room, Steve comes in while you are taking your seats. He greets everyone and then Tony explains the purpose of the mission. He brings up the map of a small town in Pennsylvania where Marc is currently located.
“We need to move quickly so we don't lose him, this has been the first solid sighting of him since the search began. So far he’s proved to be annoyingly good at staying under the radar,” Tony says.
"If we leave now we can be there in about half an hour," you agree. The last thing you want is for Marc to disappear.
A few minutes later, you and Thor are on your way to the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania.
