I couldn't stop imagining what they could have done to Lesego.
I blamed myself for neglecting her while I was busy practicing.
I'd found a way to get rid of evil spirits and reap Karabelo of her powers and calling for good.
As much as she was powerless, she was still on the loose, and her hatred was not to be ignored.
She could still kill Lesego if she wants to; hopefully, we find her before that happens.
I tried to numb my fears with positive thoughts, but then there was nothing positive about this whole situation.
I couldn't stop thinking about the way Lesego's uncle looked at me earlier, his gaze had me trembling, he just made me feel more and more guilty.
On top of that, I was really exhausted from the ritual and every other ritual I had to perform to get rid of Karabelo. I hadn't had a proper rest in days, and I wished someone could take me out of my misery and just solve this whole mess.
I could still feel the power from the ring, and it was enough to convince me not to practice any longer after this.
"We are almost there," Jack said. He was the one driving, because the others were not in good space.
Not that he was, I mean, how would you feel when you found out that the woman you've been married to for almost seven years was so sinister, that the mother of your son was plotting against her own family?
At least Lesego and Karabelo were older, but then Duncan was only 14, and Dineo 8.
"We are here." By the time I realised, everyone was out of the car.
"Is this the apartment?" Nthabiseng asked, and I nodded. "Okay, please lead the way."
I did as she said and used the stairs to go to the apartment. With everyone following me, we arrived at Clay's, and I knocked on the door, but no one responded.
"Why knock? Just open the door!" Vincent snapped at me, causing me to jump.
"Calm down, will you?" His wife defended.
I tried opening the door, but it was locked. I looked for Clay's key under one of the flowerpots besides his doorway.
"You even know where he keeps his keys?" Nthabiseng asked with her hand over her mouth, making me feel...embarrassed.
Vincent scoffed. "Are you surprised?" I hated that he was treating me this way because of my mother's crimes. "Move away from the door, I'm going to kick it down." He said and moved backwards.
We all stepped away from the door, and he kicked it open and walked in first. "Come and see this."
"Jack and Duncan, you guys check in the bedrooms. Abigail, check their kitchen or something."
There was no one here, but I didn't say anything.
"There's no one in here." Jack said, coming back from the bedrooms with Duncan.
Something caught my attention, I knew Clay's apartment like the back of my hand, and I would notice if anything was out of place.
This would have probably looked bad if Ryan was here.
"This mat was not here." I pointed at the reddish mat covering his whole sitting room. "And there was a bit of furniture."
"You must be talking about those things in one of the bedrooms," Duncan said.
Okay, what happened in here?
I shuddered to my bones as I sensed a cloud of death.
A loud growl resounded as my ancestors took over my body for a moment.
"What is that over there?" Nthabiseng asked, pointing at one end of the mat.
We all looked at what was being referred to, and a louder roar escaped past my lips, and I felt the temperature in the room drop.
My insides churned, and I felt like throwing up. "It looks like-"
"Oh, no!" Nthabiseng staggered back, her hand over her mouth. "It can't be," She cried, shaking her head.
Vincent and Jack rolled the mat, and there was blood dripping from it.
Nthabiseng walked out, and Duncan followed her.
I couldn't be here any longer. "Maybe we should–"
A clinging sound came from the bedroom side.
"What was that?" I asked.
Another sound came from under the mat, but this time it was a beeping sound.
Vincent let go of the mat. "It's a trap! All of you, go!" He shouted.
"A trap?" I asked, taking careful steps towards the mat.
"Just go!" He snapped.
Jack grabbed my hand and literally dragged me out against my will.
"What's going on?" Nthabiseng asked, obviously worried. "Vincent, what are you doing?" She tried to get back inside, but he locked us all out
"I need to check one more time if Isabelle is not here. Just go, and hurry!" He shouted through the door.
Jack pushed us out of the building. When we got to the car, Clay's apartment blew up into ashes.
"NOOO!" Nthabiseng screamed in agony.
And so, it all began.
