"Dineo!" I snapped out of a very bad dream.
I looked on my side to check if she was there, but nothing. I ran into my bathroom, but she was not there.
She probably went to her room. I thought.
I went back to bed and checked the time, it was just 7a.m., and that worried me, because Dineo never wakes up before me.
I got out of my room and went straight to her room, which was at the end of the hallway.
I knocked on the door. "Dineo?"
Duncan came out of his room. "Wow, look what the cat dragged out of the hiding hole," he said.
"Duncan, I'm looking for Dineo," I said hastily, hoping he would catch on to the urgency in my voice.
Duncan crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against his door. "Just open the door, you know she's a heavy sleeper."
I did as he said and opened the door, and then I walked in and switched on the light as her room was a bit dark because of her dark curtains.
The sight that greeted me sent a chill down my spine.
Her bed was neatly made in lavender covers matching with her walls and closets. I headed to her bathroom and opened the door, but there was no one in there.
"Duncan, she's not here," I said warily.
"Maybe she's in mom's room," he suggested.
Maybe, I thought hopefully.
"Come, go and check mom's room," He said, pulling me out of Dineo's room, and then he led me to our parents' room.
He stood against the wall next to my room and mouthed a 'good luck'. I would need it.
I opened the door but did not even get the chance to enter before shutting it again.
Duncan frowned at me.
"Okay, what just happened?"
I threw him a look. "You are better off not knowing. I'm going to take a shower." I entered my room and shut the door before he could say anything.
I looked around to see if there was anything strange. "But she was here last night," I whispered. "Oh, Dineo, where are you?"
My phone blared up, and I quickly grabbed it from my bed.
I checked the caller's ID, and it read 'Dineo'.
I answered immediately, "Dineo, where the hell are you? We were worried sick about you!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa...easy there." I froze at the sound of the voice on the other end of the line.
"Karabelo?" I asked, my voice cracking.
I moved my phone from my ear as she laughed. "The one and only."
Why didn't I think of her before? I knew her good girl act was too good to be true.
"What have you done with her, you evil-"
"I'd watch my tone if I were you, twinnie," She cuts me off with a warning. "And to answer your question, I did not do anything, you did."
"Just dare and hurt her, I swear I will-"
"What will you do, kill me?" I remained silent, my body shaking in fear. "I don't think so. You listen to me, Lesego Medupe," she mocked. "You are in no position to make threats. Breathe a single word to mom or Jack, and she dies."
My heart stopped as her words echoed in my mind, tears rolling down my face.
"Karabelo, please...please don't hurt her," I begged.
"You breathe a single word, and she dies."
"Karabelo–" the call ended before I could even get a single word out. Oh, no!
What was I supposed to do now? I couldn't tell my family, and I was sure as hell my mother wouldn't believe me.
There was only one person who could get me through this right now.
I took a quick shower and left the house before anyone could see me. Lucky for me, everyone was still in their rooms.
