Chapter 26

We were driving to the high school to figure out the reason behind these deaths. We have lead up to the theory that Chrissy and Fred came to the councilor about what they've been seeing.

"Dustin, it's Lucas, do you copy?" We hear Lucas from Dustin's Walkie.

"Lucas? Where the hell have you been?"

"Just listen, are you guys looking for Eddie?"

"We found him, no thanks to you."

"You found him?"

"A boathouse on Coal Mill Road. Don't worry. He's safe."

"You guys know he killed Chrissy, right?"

"That's bullshit. Eddie tried to save Chrissy."

"Then why do all the cops say he did it?"

Max grabs the walkie from Dustin, " Lucas you're so behind it's ridiculous, OK? Just meet us at school. We'll explain later."

" I can't, I think some real bad shits about to go down."

"What are you talking about? What bad shit?" Max asks. Lucas doesn't reply and max tried calling his name, yet, still no answer. We make it to the school and we break in. Dustin was talking to Robin and Nancy through his Walkie Talkie. Max opens up Ms. Kelley's office and we walk inside.

Max opens the files drawer, "holy shit."

"Did you find it?" We all ask.

"Yeah, But not just Chrissys file. Fred was seen Ms. Kelley too." Max turns to us and shows us the files. Max sits down at her desk and starts reading the files and so do we.

"Max, this matches so many things," I look at the file. "Max?" I lean over to see her face. "Max?!" I start shaking her. Dustin and Steve both start yelling her name until she comes back. Maxs eyes were rolled to the back of her head. She was in a trance.

We heard footsteps coming from the hall and Dustin rushes to the door: Nancy and Robin come rushing in.

"What happened?" Robin asks.

I take a random water mottle from the trash and open it. I fling the water at Max's face and she comes back to reality. "Max!" My face lights up and I bring her into a hug.

Max hugs back, "guys, I need to show you something."

We release from the hug and stand up to follow Max. She leads us to a dead end.

Max looks at us, "I saw a grandfather clock right over.." she trails off and points to where she saw it, "here." She points her flashlight, but there was nothing there. "What? I swear it was here."

"A grandfather clock?" Nancy asks.

"It was so real, and then, when I got closer, suddenly I just...I woke up."

"It was like she was in a trance or something," I say.

"Exactly what Eddie said happened to Chrissy," Dustin says.

"That's not even the bad part," Max turns towards us. "Follow me." We travel back to Ms. Kelley's office. "Fred and Chrissy, they both came to Ms. Kelley for help. Uh, they both were having headaches, bad headaches that wouldn't go away. And then... Then the nightmares, trouble sleeping. They wake up in a cold sweat then they start seeing things. Bad things, from the past. These visions, they kept on getting worse and worse, until they eventually...Everything ended."

"Vecna's curse," I mutter.

"Chrissy's headache started a week ago. Fred's, six days ago. I've been having them for five days. I don't know how long I have. All I know is that, for Fred and Chrissy, they both died less than 24 hours after their first vision. And I just saw that goddamn clock, so...Looks like I'm gonna die tomorrow."

We all stare at Max until we hear a squeak like noise in the distance. Steve turns towards us, "stay back." I walk with him until he stops at looks at me.

"What?" I say with attitude and grab a book. Steve shakes his head and sighs while grabs a pole. We both go out of the classroom and stealthily walk down the hall. Slowly. Everyone follows and then Lucas comes rushing over towards us, making us scream in terror.

"It's me!" Lucas screams.

"Lucas?!" I gasp.

"It's me," Lucas yells.

"Jesus, what's wrong with you, Sinclair?" Steve makes a furious face.

"I'm sorry," Lucas pants.

"I Could've taken you out with this lamp!" Steve yells.

"Sorry, guys, sorry," Lucas continues to pant. "I was biking for with miles." Lucas swallows. "Give me one second," Lucas holds up his index finger and continues to pant. "Shit. We gotta code red."

"What?" Steve shakes his head confusingly.

Lucas walks towards Dustin, "I've pin with Jason, Patrick, and Andy, and they've gone totally off the rails. They're trying to capture Eddie, and they think you know where he is. You're in terrible danger," Lucas gasps for air.

"Alright, yeah, that definitely sucks, but we've got bigger problems than Jason right now," Dustin looks over at Max.

"My house, now," Nancy orders, and walks out the doors of the school. We all follow and some get in her car while some get in Steve's car.

We all park in front of the Wheelers, and get out of our cars. Nancy leads the way and opens the door for all of us, and we follow her down towards the basement.

We all make ourselves comfortable. I plop myself down on the couch and Lucas and Dustin sit on either side of me. Steve picks up a newspaper and paces around while reading it.

"Okay, be honest. Uh, do you guys understand any of this?" Steve paces.

"No," Lucas squints.

"Pretty straight forward," Dustin looks at Steve. I nod in agreement.

"Oh straight forward, really?"

"Well what's confusing to you? So far, everyone Vecna has cursed has died except for this old Victor Creel dude Nancy found. He's the only known survivor. If anyone know how to beat this curse, it him."

"Yeah, that's assuming he was cursed, which we don't even know. How can Vecna have existed in the '50s? It doesn't make sense."

"Far As we know, 11 didn't create Upside Down. She opened a gate to it. The Upside Down has probably been around for thousands of years. Millions. I wouldn't be surprised if it pre-dated the dinosaurs."

"Dinosaurs?" I scrunch my face.

"Yeah, Dinosaurs? What are we-" Steve looks at me.

"Oka, okay, but if a gate didn't exist in the 50s, how did Beck and I get through," Lucas looks at all of us.

"Oh, and how's he getting through now?" Steve points at Lucas.

"And why now?" I butt in.

"Uh, and why then? Just pop out of the 50s, kills one family, and he's like, I'm good and poof, he just disappears. Just... Gone? Only to return 30 years later and start killing random teens? No, I don't buy it. Straightforward my ass. Honestly, Henderson, a little humility now and then, it wouldn't hurt you."

I roll me eyes and lean back on the couch.

"Sorry," Dustin mutters. Steve sits down and crosses his legs like the drama queen he is. "Any idea what she's writing?" Dustin asks us.
