"For the billionth and twelfth time Delilah. You're not actually playing. You're walking in with us as a ploy. Eddie believes we've recruited his lost sheep, he starts the game happy and goes easier on us. Once the dice is rolled for the first time, Erica will walk in, take your place and we will do whatever this campaign is about" Dustin explained as Delilah nodded. "Robin will kill me if I'm not there for second half. You two will be dead in a fantasy world, I'll be dead in this one" she said honestly as Mike sighed. "You will be. You're representing me and Dustin being there too for Lucas" Mike said once they started the walk down the hall to Eddie's dreaded meeting spot.
They opened the door and the boys face lit up. "We've done it. Hell has truly frozen over" he said, just happy that he'd one-upped her. "What's your class and level ? Class one dwarf ?" Jared said while walking towards her, they took the game seriously. "Now, now let's not be hasty" Eddie began but Jared kept walking. "I just said, give her a break" he barked. Delilah read the writing on her palm, nodded and smiled. "Class one dwarf, that's me" she said, shocked that he knew until Dustin pointed at the word next to it, this title was an insult. It made everyone in the room laugh. "We're screwed" Gareth said while face-palming. "It's a bluff dingus, I'll use my ku-Dustin this is not English" she said still trying to read her hand. "The dumbness is an act. Delilah's had hours of training with me and Mike. She knows the rules" Dustin lied as Delilah nodded. "Name one" Jeff asked as Delilah paused. Her palm said nothing about rules. "Blow the dice before rolling it. Good luck and all that" she said like the answer was obvious as they all laughed again but stopped the second Eddie raised his hand.
"Welcome to HellFire"
"God, your face ! The boobs used me as a ploy. Erica Sinclair's playing" she said while opening the door revealing the 11 year old, leaving Eddies jaw on the floor, Delilah strutted to the auditorium to watch the game. She walked in to a chaotic room filled with people so the game had well and truly started. She took what seemed to be the only available space on the bleachers. She was sitting down while everyone around her was standing up, stamping, screaming, cheering and even holding up hand-made signs. She couldn't help but remember dragging Robin to Steve's basketball games, Robin would always happily oblige but Delilah now knew the truth, it wasn't because she was obsessed with Steve too, it was to hear Tammy Thompson butcher each and every song she was asked to sing. She remembered how heated Billy and Steve got even though they were on the same team, the one party she was invited to afterwords, the only party she'd ever been invited to and the drunken peck she shared with him in the backyard. It was shocking to her that he was now lying six feet under in a wooden box. She hadn't fully shaken the headache she developed yesterday but it was getting worse once thinking about it but she put it all down to stress.
She was bored, she couldn't see anything from everyone standing up and was disconnected and disinterested until she saw one of the players being carried off and labelled as injured, Lucas took his place and she shot out of her seat. She joined all of her peers, she was stamping, screaming his name, she just wished she had a poster with his name on it, this is what Lucas Sinclair always wanted. The baskets were going up and up, she was focused until she heard someone shout "shoot it" then she turned around to see The Steve Harrington standing next to a girl. He saw her too and motioned for her to come up which she did. "Is this Linda-Heidi ?" she joked while pointing at the girl next to him as she shook his head. "I'm not with her, Heidi cancelled" he said honestly before going back to cheering and she joined him, it was weird to be back with him again but she felt so comfortable. Half time came and the other team were winning, it wasn't looking good.
"How come ?" she asked in response to his previous statement. "I mean she told me a cousins birthday party but I'm not dumb. She's just not into me" he said defeated, she could see it and something was telling her to just say what she wanted to say. "How could someone not be into Steve Harrington ?" she asked as he looked at her, he properly looked at her. The eyes that were usually filled with hope were now masked with so much pain, more than he'd seen in his car. "H-how was Chicago ?" he asked as she let out a loud sigh. "That bad ?" he asked as she shrugged. "The nightmares stopped though, right ?" he asked as she nodded. "Headaches now though" she replied as he sucked in a breath. "Probably all the stress, I'm not going to ask because you're not obliged to tell me everything anymore, although, you never were to begin with. What I'm saying is, it's shitty that you left to get better but came back with more hurt than you went with-" he began but the game started again.
