"He showed me things that haven't happened yet. The most awful things. I saw a dark cloud spreading over Hawkins, downtown on fire, the soldiers and this giant creature with a gaping mouth. This creature wasn't alone. There were so many monsters. An army. And they were coming into Hawkins. Into our neighbourhoods, our homes and then he showed me my mom, Holly, Mike. And they...they were all.." Nancy tried to explain. Back in their world, safe, they were all dispersed the Wheelers basement, listening to what happened to Nancy.
"Okay, but ... he's just trying to scare you, Nance" Steve began, trying to reassure the group. Taking on the role that had been silently appointed to him for so long. "No" Delilah eventually said, shed been silent since she got back. "Vecna is focused on one person when he attacks right ? Well, he was with me, I spoke to him. How could he have been with Nance ?" she asked, she sounded annoyed. She was, but she didn't know who with. "But the point of it is none of this is real" Steve continued, if he answered her, it would've led to an argument. "Not yet. But there...there was something else. He showed me gates. Four gates. Spreading across Hawkins and these gates, they looked like the one outside Eddie's trailer but they didn't stop growing. This wasn't the Upside Down Hawkins, this was our Hawkins. Our home"
"Four chims. Vecna's clock" Max said before turning to Delilah who nodded. The chimes went in fours. "It always chimes four times. Four exactly" she continued since she'd gotten the reassurance. "I heard them too" Nancy whispered. "He's been telling us his plan this whole time" Max told them as Lucas's face dropped. "Four kills. Four gates. End of the world" he said in shock. Delilah's heart dropped and she felt everything she'd ever eaten rise in her stomach. "If that's true, he's only one kill away" Dustin observed as they all turned to the curly haired girl sitting on the floor. "Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ" Eddie whispered as the girl, who was trying to contain herself the whole time, broke.
"No" she kept whispering, she was sweating, she was about to cry and she was running her hands through her hair. "Try em again, try em again" Steve ordered as he dropped to the floor to console her. Max walked over, grabbed the phone and tried ringing the Byers residence for the millionth time. "Anything ?" Dustin, who was also on the floor asked as Max shook her head. "Rang a few times then went to busy signal" she began as Steve debated with her and Dustin about punching the number in wrong.
"I told you Joyce has this telemarketer job, she's always on the phone. Mike won't stop whining about it" Dustin explained, trying to justify it. "For three days ? She's been on the phone now for three days and didn't put it down once ?" Delilah shouted out of anger. "She's right. There's something wrong. Whatever's happening in Lenora is connected to all of this but he can't hurt them, not if he's dead. We have to go back in there. Back to the Upside Down" Nancy proposed as both older boys shook their heads.
"I'm in" Delilah announced while standing up. "Let's think this through" Steve said, standing up next to her. "What is there to think through ?" Nancy asked. "We barely made it out of there. Delilah is lucky to be out of there in one peace" Steve argued, Eddie nodding along. "Yeah, because we weren't prepared but this time, we will be, we'll bring weapons and protection. We'll go through the gate, find his lair and kill him" Nancy said, Delilah agreeing with her. "Or he'll kill us. The only reason you survived is because he wanted you to. The only reason Delilah survived was because of luck, Eddie had her favourite song. He's not scared of us"
"And for good reason" Robin said while standing up. "We were wrong about Vecna. Henry. One. What are we calling him ?" Robin asked as they all said different thing. "Right. We've learned something new about Vecna/Henry/One. He's a number like Eleven only a sick, evil, male, child-murdering version of her with really bad skin. But my-my point is he's powerful. He could turn us inside out with a snap of his finger. It's not a fair fight" Robin ranted as Dustin nodded. "So why fight fair ? You're right, he's like Eleven but that gives us an upper-hand. We know Eleven's strengths and weaknesses" he explained as Erica titled her head. "Weaknesses ?" she asked as the boy smiled. "When El travels, she goes into this sort of trance-like state. I bet the same is true with Vecna. What Delilah was saying is true. How did he reach both of you at once ?"
"That would explain what he was doing in that attic" Lucas agreed as Dustin, kept beaming. "When he attacks his next victim. I'll bet you he's back in that attic, physical body defenceless" he went on. "Defenceless, yeah ? What about his army of bats ?" Steve asked as Dustin nodded. "True we'll have to find a way past them. Distract them somehow" he said as Eddie stood up. "And how do we do that exactly ?" he asked as Dustin kept going. "But once they're gone it'll be like killing Dracula in his sleeping coffin" he continued before sitting down.
"That all sounds good in theory but there is no pattern to Vecna's killings. Not one that I can think of. We don't know when he's going to attack next. We don't even know who he's going to attack next" Robin rambled as Delilah and Max looked to each-other. "Yes we do" Delilah said quietly as Max found the girls hand. "I can still feel him. Not as much as Delilah but we're both marked, cursed. I ditch-" she began as Delilah shook her head. "I ditch Jovi, I bring his focus to me" she said proudly. She didn't want to volunteer to do that but she couldn't let Max do it.
"Delilah" Steve warned as Eddie nodded. "He will kill you" he whispered, Max shook her head. "No, no you won't. I will. I just need to keep him busy long enough so you guys can get into that attic. Then you can chop his head off. Stab him in the heart. Blow him up with whatever explosive Dustin cooks up. I honestly don't care how you put this asshole in his grave. Just..whatever it is...whatever you do...try not to miss"
