Three months later
Delilah Henderson was casually strolling around the now calm streets of Hawkins. She was waiting for Steve to come and find her so they could hang out together before he went to apply for jobs with Robin the next day. The pair had been properly getting to know each-other during the three months as everyone recovered from the events of StarCourt mail. They had movie marathons, pool days at his huge house and even arcade days, all while getting to know each-other. Ice cream however was strictly forbidden seeing as Steve spent most of his time serving it during that summer.

She was walking down the street towards Enzo's when she felt an arm sling over her shoulder, this startled her. She instantly screamed before looking up to see Steve Harrington himself. "O-oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. Did I actually scare you ?" he asked, genuinely sorry as she shook her head. "I stupidly thought you were one of those Russians or something" she said, trying to catch her breath as he instantly just pressed a kiss on her temple. "I promised you, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you" he whispered into her ear which sent shivers down her spine. "It's still so weird not seeing you in that sailors uniform" she joked, trying to change the subject as he just smiled before shaking his head. "I heard that if I propose to you, we can get a free Enzo's" he said as she just shook her head. "I'm perfectly happy just walking around" she said as he shrugged before holding her hand as they began walking around Hawkins. StarCourt was gone once it blew up so teenagers were trying to find a new hangout spot.

They eventually agreed to get into Steve's car and go to the arcades. "Fact Vault. What are my parents names ?" she asked the boy who paused. "Trick question" he said, keeping his eyes on the road. "How ?" she asked confused. "Because I get it mixed up with your grandparents names. Wait" he said while thinking before smiling. "Lil and Arnie" he said as she put out her hand for him to high-five. "Boom. Yes Steve" she said. She could instantly feel her cheeks heating up, just genuinely happy that he was noticing her enough to actually learn facts about her life. "And Arnie is working in Illinois but you, Dustin and Lil moved here because it was cheaper and had a better AV program for Dustin and I should know your parents names because it's yours and Dustin's middle names" he said, genuinely thinking as she smiled the biggest smile she could. "That's kinda hot that you know all that" she said while biting her bottom lip as he nodded. "Oh really ?" he said while scanning her up and down but they were interrupted by someone banging at the window.

Steve, clearly annoyed turned around and rolled down the window to see Dustin standing there with Lucas. "Yes, children ?" Steve said sarcastically which Delilah found so funny that he started calling the kids his children due to Robin. "Did you tell her yet ?" Dustin asked as Steve shook his head. "Well hurry up. Steve" he said while tapping his watch as Steve told him to go away as he rolled up the window. "Tell me what ?" the girl asked while readjusting her position since she figured they'd be in his car for longer than expected. "Get your feet off the dashboard" he said as she shook her head so he just sighed before looking at her. "About Yale-" he began since Delilahs mother had asked him to tell her because Delilah wouldn't throw a lamp or a knife or anything for that matter at him. She wasn't known to do i but her mother just didn't want to risk it.

"Yeah" she said as he looked down trying to find the words. "Come on. Tell me" she said through a smile as she tapped him but he stayed silent. "You have my letter" she said excitedly as he just looked up. "Lilah" he said softly bringing her back down to earth as she sighed before looking at him. "Yeah ?" she asked again as he nodded before just coming out with it. "You didn't get in to Yale" he just said as she nodded.
"I'm sorry. The rejection letter came months ago but your mom didn't want to ruin your summer" he began as she shook her head. "It's okay. I knew I wasn't going to get in. I just, I guess I just wanted to feel accepted. Somewhere. Anywhere" she began as his hand found hers. "Well I accept you and all of your weirdness. How's that ?" he said as she smiled before pressing a kiss on his lips. "I think that's better" she whispered as he smiled.

"Go on. Screw the arcade. Let's get ice cream and cry" he said as she just shook her head. "I vowed with you that we wouldn't set foot in an ice cream parlor again and we're sticking to it" she said as he shook his head. "I'll let it slide this once. This is bad news" he said as she shook her head. "No. Just let me kick your ass in there and I think we'll be good" she said as he sighed before getting the car and the pair began walking up to the door.

A few of Steve's old friends were also walking towards the door and Carol, the girl who made Delilah's high school experience a living misery also happened to be there. She felt herself tense up once Steve saw them he instantly shook his head and held Delilahs hand. "Don't" she instantly said noticing he was going to say something.

"Hey Harrington, not going to say hi to your friends now you're dating-" Tommy H began as he tried to figure out who's hand he was holding. "It's not loser Henderson. I'm surprised she's not with her brother" Carol said while laughing. "Steve's going to dump you. He wouldn't fucking want you" she shouted as Delilah just sighed. "Some people haven't left high school. Come on let's just go" Delilah said trying to tug him away from the door but Steve stayed staring at them. "Don't talk to her like that" Steve said as she kept trying to tug him away but stopped once she realized he was sticking up for her. The one thing she always wanted him to do. "She your girlfriend now or something ?" Tommy shouted as Carol started laughing. "Yeah. Yeah she fucking is" he spat before opening the door, letting Delilah walk in first before following behind her.

"Girlfriend ? We're labeling things now" she said with a smile on her face. "That slipped out. Don't think too much into it, unless you want to" he said which made no sense to her but she just looked up into his big brown eyes. "Ask me the question" she said while biting her bottom lip as he nodded.

"Delilah Lillian Hen-" he began as she shook her head. "I didn't mean propose to me" she said as he nodded dramatically like that's what he was about to do, making her laugh. "Do you want to be my girlfriend ?" he said before going bright red as she shrugged. "No" she simply said before walking off leaving him standing there speechless. "I'm kidding you idiot. Of course I do" she said with the biggest smile on her face as the pair spent the rest of the day in the arcade.
