Delphine's POV

A week later

I get up and stretch my arms bringing my arms all around my body in a windmill motion.

I grab the cup and move it to one of the drawers. I grab the end of the rug and pull it back to its spot. I hide the knife in the very bottom drawer under some notebooks. I move to my bathroom and cover up my eyebags. I add a little bit of blush to make me look alive.

I get changed in plain black pants and a Tennesse Whiskey shirt. I put on my sneakers and put on my phone charger back on my nightstand.

I leave my room once again checking my window to make sure it was locked. I leave my room yawning, I walk out to the kitchen grabbing my apple. I see everyone else already there enjoying their breakfast. I would grab a coffee to help me stay awake but coffee tastes like dirt.

I hop up on the counter eating my apple I see them looking at me.

"What?"

"Nothing you're just up later than usual," Cyrus tells me explaining his staring.

"Is that a problem?" He raises his eyebrow at me.

"Time for school." Honey breaks our staring contest as we go to school.

Keeping my eyes open in class has proved to be a challenge. I keep yawning trying to keep my eyes open. I close my eyes for a second. I shot awake when the bell rings. I get up to go to lunch.

I see my friends and I walk over I put my head on the table closing my eyes. I feel a warm hand on my back but let it be as I'm too tired to complain.

"Are you ok?" I lift my head to see concerned faces. I nod as I yawn.

My eyes are getting harder and harder to keep open. The lunch bell rings we all get up Nico is in front of me as Nolan stands a few feet away from me. My eyes start feeling heavy and I feel like falling.

I wake up and hear beeping. I groan as I feel a sharp pain in my head. I open my eyes feeling the pain in my head worsen I close my eyes again.

"Delphine, can you open your eyes?" I hear someone's voice. I open my eyes again. "Thank you Do you remember what happened to you?"

I nod my head slightly not wanting to talk yet.

"Can you tell me what happened?" The man who is clearly a doctor asks me.

"Um I was at lunch and then I felt like I was falling then heard people yelling," I whisper to him trying to not agitate my head.

"You passed out from exhaustion. When you fell you hit your head pretty hard. Your dad is outside do you want to talk to him?" I nod my head. "Ok, I'll be right back."

True to his word he came back a second later with my dad who rushed over to me.

"Mr. Hale she will have to limit her physical activity today but tomorrow she should be fine. I suggest a simple pain reliever when you get home her headache should be gone by tomorrow if not bring her back. When you are ready she is free to go." The doctor left leaving me and my dad alone.

"Why haven't you been sleeping?"

I froze. I knew I couldn't keep it up forever but I thought I would have more time.

"I've been having nightmares about my mom." I lied. It was the easiest way to explain why I passed out from exhaustion.

"Why didn't you tell me?" His voice leaked concern.

"I didn't want to bother you ok. I'm not used to having someone care for me. I know I've been here for a while but I'm not used to being with a family who cares." I look away from him.

"Hey alright you can always come to me when something is bothering you. I will always be here for you." He gives me a hug as I stuff my face in his neck. "Come on lets get you home"
