Delphine's POV
Finishing my makeup I set down my brush admiring my work. I turn around in the mirror admiring my outfit. I choose today to wear blue straight jeans with rips in the knees and on the thighs and a dark green corset-type top. This morning we went to the hospital and I got the okay to take off my brace forever.
Leaving my room I met Nico in the living room. His black jeans and leather give off the bad-boy vibes he tries so hard for.
"Hello" I wave my hand in front of his face as he smiles at me.
"You look pretty today. I mean you do every day but today is different." He rambles on in a quick tone. I giggle interrupting his thoughts.
"Thank you." He nods and reaches his hand out to me. I take his hand relishing its warmth and the small calluses on his palm. We go to his bike he hands me Mina's helmet and helps me slide it on.
He gets on first. As I straddle the bike, I set my hand on his shoulder to balance myself. When I wrap my hands around his stomach he starts the bike. When he flies down the driveway I can feel the cold air against my legs.
I watch as everything passes by even though you go about the same speed in a car your surroundings are different on a bike. Everything you see feels freeing. He stops after a few minutes. I look up to see a book store.
I get off the bike and wait for him giving him my helmet and smoothing my hair. He grabs my hand and leads me inside the store.
"Pick out whichever one you want" I look at him as he looks down at me with a small smile. I lead him around the store looking at the options. I find one that I've been wanting to read for a while. I hold it up to him for his approval. " I said which whatever you want."
"This one." We go up to the cashier and put the book down. The middle-aged woman checks us out. I go to grab my card from my back pocket when Nico beat me and handed her his own card.
"I can pay."
"I know you can but this was my idea." He takes his card back and the book from the woman and leads us out back to his bike. The trust he has for leaving the helmets out confuses me.
"Do you not worry about someone stealing your helmet?"
"See this," He points to a black skull sticker on the side of his gas tank. "It means that I'm a part of the club. In this town, we help out the cops. When regular legal practices don't work they call us to take care of a problem. Most clubs deal in drugs or some sort of trafficking while we deal with protection instead. People know if they touch my stuff bigger problems will arise than just a police report." He explains as he puts the book in one of his saddle sbags.
I grab my helmet and put it on waiting for him to get on.
With both of us ready we head out to where I'm not sure. He drives back towards the house but goes past the house. He slows down a bit and turns down a dirt road that is hidden by the trees. We drive for a bit longer hidden in the trees I can see faint tire tracks from his bike on the road already.
We get to a grassy clearing before the stops. I get off and look around. If we were to continue driving a small cliff lays down below is a little river carving a valley. The road we were on completely stops and turns into the grassy area. From here you can't hear anything no cars no people, nothing.
Off the cliff, you can see the sun setting on the horizon. I turn back towards Nico when he clears his throat. I had spent so much time looking around that I didn't notice him setting up a banket on the ground and him on the ground with the book in his hand. I sit down next to him.
"What is this place?"
"Before we moved in this was an old service road but it was abandoned. One day me and the boys found it and made it our stop to decompress. Some place that we had, mom knows about it but not the exact location." He leans back and pushes his hands out to hold him up.
"And you broke the bro code taking a girl here." I dramatically cover my mouth with my hands.
"Actually they helped me plan this. And besides, the sunsets are beautiful up here." We both look over to the sun that has gotten lower. I feel something drop in my lap. Startled I look down to see the book on my lap.
I look questioning Nico. "You are gonna read to me."
"I'm not a good reader."
"Who cares. Were the only ones here and besides us."
"Fine" I flip to the first place and start reading to him. I wasn't lying when I said I wasn't a good reader. I have this thing where when I get excited or any overly powerful emotion I start talking faster. I went to speech therapy when I was a kid but not everything can be helped.
When I started to get nervous and stumble on words Nico put his hand on my knee telling me to slow down. It surprisingly worked. We sat there until the sunset fully and decided to go home.
He took the book and put it in his saddle bag and we got on.
"Hold on tight," He said on his shoulder.
"Wait what."
He took off. I squealed and gripped him tighter burying my head the best that I could into his back. I could feel his chest vibrate under my hands from his laughing at my expense.
He only slowed down to take a turn and when we got to the house. I jumped off when we parked. I slapped his chest, "Asshole" My eyes were still wide as he laughed and got off the bike.
"Sorry, but it was getting to rom-com for me." He defended himself as he grabbed the book.
"Still an asshole." I turn away and try to get inside but he grabs one hand and drags me back to him. He
"Wait it's not over yet." I look at him as his eyes start to dart around the yard. One hand behind his back as he holds my other, "Wouldyouliketobemygirlfriend?"
"I'm sorry but you're gonna have to repeat that last part."
He breathed in deep before repeating his question clearly. "Would you be my girlfriend?" He looked hopefully at me.
"I don't know what's in it for me." He rolled his eyes at me before bringing his hand out from behind his back. A cute little turtle stuffed animal in his hand. He gave it to me with a cute pout on his lips. "I guess."
He grabbed the sides of my face and pulled me into a kiss. His lips were warm against mine it took me a few seconds to respond to him. When I did I grabbed the side of his jacket pulling him against me and dropping the turtle. He pulled away from the kiss grabbing the toy from the ground and wiping off the little bit of dirt.
"You still guessing?"
"Fine yes, no give me back my gift." I reach for the turtle as he holds it above my head.
"One more kiss." He puckers his lips. I give him a hesitant peck and am ready for my turtle again. He brings it down to me and grabs the book from his seat and takes my hand. We walk inside the quiet house.
"Goodnight my Dolphin."
"Goodnight Goldilocks." I walk to my room feeling his gaze. He watches me from the start of the stairs before going up to them.
Closing my door I set the turtle on my bed with my growing collection. Skipping to my bathroom I get ready for bed going to sleep with a smile on my face. Before I fall asleep I feel Odi Snuggled up closer to my chest.
