Nico's POV

I have no idea what made me stay with Delphine. When I heard that she would have to be alone I couldn't have that image of her in a hospital alone. So now her I am with my phone almost dead and a TV that sucks.

Delphine was not kidding the channels suck here. Turning off my phone I look over at Delphine. Seeing the band-aids on her face and the bruise pointing her arms set a fire in me. I don't know if it's because of how she got them or her having them.

A nurse came by earlier and took out Delphien's IV and has been giving her pills for her pain. I see Delphine move the two blankets off of her and sit up slowly. Once I notice that she is trying to get up she has her legs over the side of her bed.

I rush over and block her from trying to stand up.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"Trying to get my bag but you are in the way." She rolls her eyes at me. I have never seen someone roll their eyes so much before.

"Lay back down," I order her waiting for her to get back in bed. When she lays back down wincing I grab her blankets covering her muttering under my breath about how now she is trying to hurt herself. Stubborn women couldn't just have asked for my help to grab it.

I grab her backpack from off the floor. Lifting it up I set it next to her. She opens it and grabs out her sketchbook and pencil. I see her flip through it getting glances at her other pieces. She flips to one page which has a sketch of what looks like butterflies. On a sticky note in the corner is a list of colors.

With her starting to work on it, I retake my seat watching her. Her hands move slowly because of her wrist but she manages to still draw. Her brown hair is held back in a braid, I could see her green eye moving back and forth.

When she first joined our school I saw that she had hidden her eyes matching them the blue. It wasn't until Dom pointed it out did she stop hiding it. Had someone said something about her eyes? It only made her more unique, in a world where girls are always trying to look a certain way to appear more desirable it was refreshing to one someone who imbraced their natural differences.

When I first saw her I had made a comment on how she was hiding her body under a hoodie and it had the illusion of being basic. But since her living with us, I've noticed how she has a smaller build. She was of average height for girls and an average body nothing special but something that made her beautiful.

Wait beautiful what the hell. Shaking my head I notice how she has stopped drawing but is shuffling through her bag. I can see her clothes skimming the sipper of the bag as she continues to go through it.

"What are you looking for it?"

"I wanted to see if Mina brought my phone." She looks through the other pockets of her bag before pulling out her phone and a charger.

She grabs her phone and turns it on, and chucks the charger at me. She way underestimates the distance as the charger drops on the ground a good foot in front of me. I look up at her raising my eyebrows. She shrugs her shoulders and turns on her phone.

"Do you want me to plug this in for you?"

"No my phone is fully charged. You stopped using yours a while ago and you were staring at me and zoned off. Figured your phone was dead." She goes to her phone and picks her sketchbook back up.

I plug in the charge and my phone. Letting it be alone I look over at her and see how her eyes are moving from her phone to her drawing.

"When is school out?"

"In a few weeks, your dad told us that he probably won't have you go back and just do online because of your ribs."

"K" She continues to draw. I go on my phone scrolling through Tik Tok. I hear her drop her pencil harshly, I look up at her as she glares at her paper.

"Why are you glaring at your paper?"

"Because it's not working." She snaps at me and huffs and leans back into her pillows. I walk over to see her drawing. It looks fine to me the outline is now defiant and her phone has a picture of a butterfly.

"I don't see the problem."

"Right there. The wing is a different size and makes it look weird." She points to one of the three butterflies. It still looks normal to me.

"Okay well, why don't you take a break for a while, rest your hand, and work on it tomorrow."

"Fine." She closes her book loudly and sets it on the table that wraps around the bed. She grabs her phone and I see her open up Tik Tok before I sit down again. A nurse came in brought her dinner and winked before she left. After dinner, help Delphien get to the bathroom where she gets ready for bed. She comes out in shorts and a tank top. I can see her sports bra underneath her shirt as she shuffles to bed I see her cover herself with the two blankets and go back on her phone.

Her music eventually stops playing but it has been going on and off for a while. I look up and see her eyes closed and her phone in her hand about to fall onto the bed. I get and grab her phone, taking it out of her hand I see her notes app open. The note that she had open is a list of book titles and authors.

Looking at her I see she is still asleep I shut off her phone and plug it in.

With the little bit of her past, she has shared you could never tell she was into stuff so mundane as reading and drawing. I would have expected her to be some troubled kid with a mile-long record that wouldn't last a week.

Guess I was wrong.
