Chapter 40- 'Your dead mom'

Delphine's POV

"How I this a good movie option?" Nico asked Mina who sat on the other side of the couch. I was laying my head on Nico's lap. Mina and Honey wanted to watch a movie together o they dragged me out of my room. 

Honey was in the kitchen grabbing her water as Mina put on a movie. She had picked out a new documentary on animal attacks. Nico wanted to watch an actual movie so he and Mina have been arguing for the past 5 minutes. 

"Enough. Nico, you can pick next time okay." Honey comes in and sits on the other couch grabbing the remote and playing. 

Halfway through the documentary, I'm the only one awake. I could change the tv but this person got bitten by some kind of snake and the one before was trampled by a water buffalo. Crazy. Anyone I'm too invested in this to turn it off. 

I'm leaning forward trying not to disturb Nico as he sleeps with his head laid back on the couch. As I'm watching them explain what happened to the girl someone grabs my shoulders causing me to scream. 

I fall forward onto the floor hitting my head on the ground. I can hear someone laughing as more people ask what happened. 

"Cyrus why would you do that to the poor girl," Honey asks as I continue laying on the floor trying to catch my breath. Nico looks down at me smiling but reaching his hand out for me. I accept it and rise off the floor with his help. 

Getting up I see my dad by the entrance and Cyrus hunched over with his hands on his knees dying in laughter. 

"You are an asshole," I say to him before hiding my face in Nico's chest. 

"You should have seen yourself." He barely is able to get out his words as he continues to laugh. When he sobers up he stands up wiping under his eyes and walks over to Honey. 

"I hate you."

"Come on I couldn't pass up the opportunity." He defends himself. "If I knew your reaction would have been like that I would have done it a long time ago." I gare at him and lean back into Nico. 

My dad comes over finally and kisses my forehead before sitting down by Cyrus and Honey. Odi was at his obidence class right now thankfully. I swear when he barks your ears ring for a bit. Ignoring Cyrsu's occasional snickering I turn my attention back to the tv rewinding to the part where I was rudely interrupted. 

Playing the show we all start watching it I see Cyrus wince at some of the descriptions. When it's finished Honey gets up and takes her glass to the kitchen. 

"Is what yall have been ding all day?" My dad asks. 

"No Mina and Honey dragged us out here to watch this."

"Please we didn't force you and besides you're the most into it." Mina contradicts me. 

I roll my eyes and get up. I've been helping Honey with dinner recently. I make my way to the kitchen to see her preparing something. When I start cutting up some vegetables for her I hear the doorbell. 

"I got it," Mina yells from the living room. I put the cut-up veggies in the pan to start sauteing them. "Delphine it's for you." Mina walks into the kitchen empty-handed. 

"Really?" I don't remember ordering something. I walk out to the living room to see a small box on the coffee table. The tv is off as the guys talk about something that sounds boring. I look at the box it's addressed to me. But it has my full name. Delphine Olivia Hale. 

"Your middle name is Olivia," Mina says but for more in that using tone like she wasn't sure about my answer. 

"Yeah." I grab the end of the box by the seal trying to open it. I pull harder on the tape to commit to grabbing a knife or scissors. I get the cardboard to rip before the tape. Whatever works. 

I open the box to see a note card on top of tissue paper. I grab out the note. 

In neat handwriting,  Dear Liv, I hope this finds you well but you should have known not all good things are forever. I can't wait to see you. What the hell. 

"Who wrote that?" Nico's angry voice comes from behind me as I look he was reading over my shoulder. 

"Umm"

"Delphine who wrote that?" At this point, my dad has grabbed the note from me and he and Cyrus have begun reading it themselves. 

"It can't be." I begin to pace around the living room rubbing my hands together. 

"Delphine."

"It can't"

"Delphine."

"It's impossible." 

"Delphine."

"No. No. No."

"Delphine." Someone grabs my shoulders and shakes me a little. 

"Delphine, calm down, please. It's okay" I focus my attention on Nico in front of me. "Please tell us who sent that."

"I only know one person who called me that." He nods his head. "You are the only people I've ever told my middle name to but one person."

"Who?"

"My mom."

"You mean your dead mom." I look over at Cyrus nodding my head. 

"Fuck."
