Parker hit the Netflix icon as the meeting started. He could hear his father's boss Justin Sellers began his verbal assault on his sales people. He did not understand why a group of grown adults put up with it.
The pay must be really good he thought.
Parker tried to ignore it but then he centered on a salesman named Todd. Evidently he had spent close to an hour with a prospective buyer only to find out that the customer did not have have the title to the car with him that he was looking to trade in for a new car.
"How could you be so stupid not get the title when he first came in." Justin screamed at the unfortunate associate. Parker imagined his face turning bright red as he popped out of his skull. The poor man did not get a chance to answer. "Anyone with a working brain knows to get the title first. Of course I guess that is what I should expect from a brainless, moron such as you."
Ouch Parker winced as he felt sympathy for the guy. No one deserves to be humiliated and degraded like that. Especially in front of their coworkers.
I can't believe that dad is allowing Mister Sellers to talk to the poor guy like that. Why isn't anyone standing up for him?
"You truly are a waste of a human life aren't you." Sellers said to him. A salesman named Randall with black frame glasses smirked in amusement. "How many appointments do you have?"
The man's voice trembled "None, Justin."
Parker then heard a loud bang that caused him to jump as the angry man screamed "Why not!"
"I tried Justin." Todd said.
Unseen to Parker a blue pen sailed across the table striking the Todd in the face. "Try harder you idiot." Justin then shot the man a look of disgust. "Now get out of my sight you mental midget before I shove my foot up your backside."
Parker could hear the man jump to his feet and scurry out of the room.
"Now the rest of you get out of there, sell some cars and don't be an idiot like Todd."
The other seven sales clerks walked out. Rodger and the finance manager whose name was Charlie looked at him.
"What?" Justin said.
"You were way out of line with Todd." Rodger said.
"No, I wasn't." Justin said defensively. "If anything I was too nice."
"Too nice?" Charlie looked at him incredulous. "You humiliated in from his peers, insulted him."
"Well if he wasn't a worthless idiot I would have to." Justin said showing no remorse for his actions.
"Don't call him that." Rodger said frustrated. "If you keep this up the poor guy is going to kill himself."
"One can only hope." Justin said.
Shock filled the eyes of the other two men. "Justin that is not funny."
"I wasn't trying to be." He said deadpan. "He should do us and the world a favor and off himself." He then looked at Rodger in annoyance. "By the way what is your kid doing here."
"Parker is here?" Charlie said surprised.
"Yes." And fortunately he had to hear you treat poor Todd like crap. "He got himself in trouble last night and I could not leave him alone without supervision so I brought him to work with me."
Charlie gave him a quizzical look.
"What are we running a business or a daycare?" Justin spat.
Says the man who has brought his own hellions to work Rodger mused. "A business." He answered. "Don't worry he won't be any trouble."
"He better not be." Justin said as anger flared in his eyes. "And we are not buying lunch for him." The employees were not allowed to leave for lunch so the dealership bought lunch for them.
"Dont worry I will pay for him myself." Rodger said.
"You better." He shot him a threatening look. "And you know what if dunderhead does not have an appointment set up by eleven thirty he can pay for his own lunch too."
"Justin..." Charlie said but was then cut off.
"I mean it." Justin said. "I'm not wasting a single cent of the company's money on that retard." His face twisted in frustration. "Let's get out there."
Charlie got up and headed towards the door as Rodger said. "I'm going to check on Parker and I will be right there."
Justin was not happy to hear that. "I thought you said that he is going to be any trouble."
"He's not." Rodger said firmly and then walked back into his office.
Justin glowered at the closed door and walked onto the showroom.
Parker stood as his father walked in. He was about to say something but his father raised a hand silencing him. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Parker said.
"I'm sorry you had to hear all that." Rodger said.
"I feel sorry for that Todd guy." Parker said. "I can't believe he talked to him like that."
"Yeah Justin has a real disdain for under performers." Rodger said.
"If that is how he treats his employees I don't want to be a lot boy."
"He's nicer to the lot boys." Rodger told him.
"Does he talk to his own kids like that?" He knew that Justin had eight kids between the ages of seven to fifteen. He's only seen them in passing so he had no idea what they were like or how Mister Sellers treated them.
"No." Rodger shook his head. "His kids are a bunch of undisciplined brats who treat people just like how their dad does."
"I feel sorry for his wife." Parker said.
Rodger nodded his head in agreement. "I need to get out there. The bathrooms are down the hall."
"I saw them when we came in."
"And the employee lounge has soda machines and vending machines of you get hungry." He then asked. "Do you have money?"
"Yeah." He nodded. He had ten dollars in his wallet.
"If you need me let the receptionist know and she will call me."
"I will."
"But don't go onto the showroom floor or the service bay." Rodger said. "Or outside."
"I won't."
"Be good."
"I will." Rodger gave his son's arm a slight squeeze and then walked out. Parker sat back down and let out a sigh.
This is going to be a long day he thought.
