Christine could not help herself. Wesley looked so downcast as he sat there writing definitions from the dictionary that she felt compelled to do something to improve his mood.
She had no choice really. It was because of her mom that he was stuck in library detention writing until his hands cramped up in pain.
It was her moral obligation to pull him from the dark mood he had sunk in. What kind of friend would she be if she did not try to help him.
A bad one she told herself.
And the last thing she wanted to be was a bad friend.
No she could not be that.
She needed to bring a smile to his face.
She started by taking the back end of her pen and poking it in his side. He did not respond so she tried again.
"Stop please." Wesley said as he copied the definition of abdominus which meant to have a large pot belly.
That did not work but she was not going to accept to defeat. Not until his somber expression was eradicated from his face.
So she took and ran it up his back causing him to jump from his seat. He looked at her seething with anger, silently asking what is wrong with you.
"Do we have a problem Wesley?" Ryerson asked as she peered over the rim of his glasses. All eyes were now on him but his were still on Christine boring a hole straight
"Wesley." Ryerson said and he looked at her. "Is there a problem."
He then looked back at Christine whose eyes pleaded with him not to her in trouble.
"No ma'am." Wesley said.
"Perhaps you should sit somewhere else."
Sounds like a good idea he thought as he gave Christine a scathing look. "Yes ma'am."
He then gathered his things as she said "Sorry."
Wesley gave her one more dirty look and walked to the other side sitting next to Billy.
Drama king Christine thought.
She then noticed Marigold staring at her with daggers in her eyes.
Her nose twitched as she said "What are you looking at?"
"Be quiet Christine." The teacher said.
"Tell Marigeek to stop looking at me." Anger flashed across the sixteen year old's face.
"Dont call her that." Ryerson said in a scolding tone.
"Fine." She said returning Marigold's dirty look. "Tell Marigold to stop staring at me."
Ryerson let out an exasperated breathe as she thought I don't get paid enough to deal with this. "Marigold please stop staring at Christine and get back to work."
Marigold shook her head in derision and then began writing again.
That's right look away geek girl.
"You too Christine." Ryerson said. "Or do I have to call your mother."
"No ma'am." Christine said looking back to the dictionary and the next word she would copy.
"I see why you guys broke up." Billy muttered under his breath.
Wesley smirked in response.
Melinda marched into the offices of Fine, Howard, and Besser. This time she met Calvin as he was on his way back from the breakroom with a cup of coffee in his hand.
