Dawns High and the Destruction of the Bees

Chapter 3

Emma Chen:

Sunday, August, 30th—

I'm shook. I cannot believe what happened yesterday. The memory is still visible in my head and it's being played over and over again. I couldn't sleep the whole night because of it and I feel like a panda right now. I recall pushing the door open and seeing a room that looks sort of like a lab, but a small one. It looked like an odd place, so the three of us walked around and explored the lab. There were big screens and dozens of buttons and control switches. There was a picture of an enlarged colorful bee on one of the screens too. I thought the people were doing an experiment in the forest about bees at first. However, no one was in the lab. That was the weird part. Why would there be a lab underneath the ground with a door that's open and lights on? I should've known something was wrong because the next moment, 2 people with black face masks appeared and they looked like they were going to tear us to bits.

One of them looked like a girl and the other looked like a man. I remember not knowing what to do at first, but then I said, "Hey, are you guys the owners of this underground lab." I feel dumb now. Why in the world would two masked people own an underground lab? It was pretty obvious that they were breaking into the room, but we happened to be in their way.

"We can't let you go without erasing your memories first now that you've seen us," said the masked man. He's voice was unstable, so I guess he is faking an accent.

"No," Matthew said. "We are going to leave this place now and not a single strand of our hair will be touched by any of you." At the moment I thought he sounded like he was the main character of a movie making a grand speech before fighting.

"Say what you want," the masked lady said. "But you're not getting out of here safely if that's how you're going to do things." She was putting up an accent too, though hers is better than the one of her partner's.

Then, in the blink of an eye, the lady ran toward me, her hand transforming into sharp claws. I was able to dodge of course, but she was faster. She turned to me again and stuck the claw right in my right arm. It was of course painful, but I kicked her away and rewinded the time in my body. This caused the wound to disappear. I then dashed toward her in a zigzag pattern and electrocuted her. It took some time before she fell down since she was so strong. I estimate that it'll be only three minutes before she got up again. I look over at how the other two are doing and find them still fighting the masked dude.

I see Roy freezing the guy, but I'm pretty sure the guy is stronger since only his feet to hip length were frozen. Matthew was throwing flames at him, but it only gave the masked man some tiny injuries at most. The man was shooting lasers out of his eyes to block out Matthew's fireballs. I decided to help too, so I shot electricity from behind him. Since his legs are frozen in place, I didn't have a hard time because the man can't turn his head around. He was then down now, and I felt so relieved. However, Roy suddenly shot lasers from his eyes too! And it was aimed straight at me, or so I thought. It actually went behind me and hit the masked lady. She was up. It half worked, I guess. The arm that got hit was swinging around. I supposed Roy broke it. That was also when I figured out that Matthew can copy abilities. Laser and freezing skills are not part of the 4 families, so Matthew shouldn't have two abilities unless his ability is to be able to use other abilities.

The lady, however, teleported. She was gone for a few seconds, though. I think she did that on purpose because we were all looking around for her when she suddenly appeared behind Roy and stuck both of her claws into his arms. Before me or Matthew could stop her, she punched Roy's face from behind at least 5 times and re-teleported. Matthew went over to help Roy get up, and I saw the lady appearing next to the masked man and trying to help him up. That time, I was prepared and shot a 5 feet long electric bolt at them. Unfortunately, the lady was faster and she and the man teleported. She didn't come back and I guess she probably retreated. I turned to Matthew.
