Emma Chen:
Friday, January 1st—
I'm moving out of Matthew's dorm today! Since I only brought a few items with me when I moved in, packing everything was quick and easy. I'm eating the chocolates Roy gave me for my Christmas present while doing everything. They are sooooo good! My favorite one has got to be the birthday cake flavor chocolate; too bad there is only one of each kind in the box.
"You sure you've got everything?" Matthew asks me for the tenth time. He nags way too much. He's just like our math teacher, who spends half the lesson talking about how to behave in class and other random things.
"Yes," I reply, even though I don't want to. I am going to wait for Selena to come first before going back to my dorm because I don't want to be alone.
"I'm gonna miss you," I say, hugging Matthew's bed. It's so comfortable, I should just steal it from my brother.
"Go hug your own bed," Matthew says. "And did you complete all your homework?"
"Nope!" I say protectively. Matthew shakes his head. "How can you say that with such a straight face. You got like a few hours to do everything. Go do your homework now." I miserably open my laptop and start reading my textbook. I have 3 chapters to read and that's it. However the chapters are like super duper long. This is gonna take me a while.
Around mid-afternoon, which is about two and a half hours later, I finish reading the last page I am assigned to read. It's odd. Selena should've been back a long time ago; however, she hasn't because she didn't contact me yet. I guess I don't need to worry because George hasn't arrived either, but George did say he was going to come later.
"Kevin just called," Matthew says, coming through the door. "He said there were some things that Selena had to take care of so she needed another couple of hours.
"What's so important," I say, throwing Matthew's pillow around for fun.
"I don't know," Matthew says. "But George is going to be here in half an hour so brace yourself. You'll never be able to come in this room again." He looks very pleased with himself which I hate. Can't even spare his own cute little sister for one day.
"Whatever," I say, sticking out my tongue. I only do this to Matthew, Aaron, and Selena because it'll be too embarrassing for others to see. Thus, I start to read a book about the different ways to throw a knife to kill time. When George comes back, I stay in Matthew's room because I'll eventually greet him anyways, so why not just do it when Selena arrives too?
My phone starts to ring after some time and it's from Selena. "You're back?" I ask immediately when I answer the phone.
"Yeah," Selena answers, sounding exhausted. Is it just my imagination or is she actually tired?
"Where are you?" she asks in the same weary tone. "You're not in our dorm, right?"
"I'm at Matthew's," I say, getting out of bed. "I'm coming over, so wait a bit." As I exit Matthew's room, I take out the keys that he had given me at the beginning of the break and set it on the living room table where I saw Matthew take it from.
"Hey George, welcome back," I say. Somehow, he's the only one in the living room. I wonder where Matthew and Roy are.
"Hi!" he says, cheerful as ever. I wonder how a person can be so energetic all the time. "Are you going back?"
"Yeah," I say. "Selena just got back home, so I'll take my leave. I left the keys here, too." I point to the table in front of both of us.
"No problem," he says, coolly. "I guess I won't go with you because I'll see Selena tomorrow anyways. Bye!" I wave him goodbye and run back to my dorm. I actually kind of miss my dorm. It feels like I've been away for a long time and I am finally coming back home.
