Selena Jal:

Wednesday, December 4th—

School just ended and I'm on my way back to the dormitory. Today will mark the first day of training in December. To be honest, I look quite forward to it. Training for the competition sounds fun and if all of us can improve within a month, it'll be really worth it. As usual, the teachers have us extra homework because it's Wednesday, but that doesn't mean I can't finish them quickly. I've always been a kind of nerd, not that I look like one. After all, the people who I hang around with aren't exactly the type who doesn't complain about doing work. Oh well, similar people are hard to hang out with if you ask me.

Emma is staying in school to do some of her work with Matthew. I wanted to go home because there are so many people in school, it gives me anxiety. Plus. No one's home which means I get to have some peace and quiet. First things first, I go to the fridge and grab myself two brownies. This'll be my snack. Then, I take out some of the potions I concocted yesterday. I think they might help during today's training. They can heal people like a healer so there won't be a need to wait until it's their turn.

I go to the sofa and put my backpack on the floor next to my leg. I take out all my homework for the day and begin right away. It's obvious that I'm not going to finish them all in one hour, but seeing how much work I have left motivates me to focus more. Good thing I finished science homework during lunch. Those questions were not easy. Anyways, I begin with my Elective homework which is about the different types of potions for different diseases. My Elective is about medicine and poison. Everybody is supposed to take that class if they want to be a doctor or nurse in the future. It's quite fun, really. I would usually use my ability if I want to heal someone, but a person can only heal so much before draining their energy. That's where potions come in. I can brew some so that I will save my energy for those who are in desperate needs and potions don't work on them. For the poison part of the class, we learn about the different types of poison and their anecdotes. Although the weird part is that we also learn to make poison. I don't mind, however, I actually enjoy it. Poison will come in handy during battles and it's always good to know them and to have some in hand in case of an emergency.

My assignment is to match the poison to the correct anecdotes and write out the ingredients for each poison and antidote. The teacher also said to write out the making process if I want extra credit. Before I came to Dawns, all I knew was how to heal and the cures for diseases. I didn't know anything about the poison except for how to get rid of it. Now that I know the composure of the poisons, it's much easier to understand why you need the certain ingredients for the anecdotes. I can also make my own medicine without knowing what is needed because if I know about the poison, I can figure out the rest of the supplies. Such an amazing course.

When it's 3:30 PM, I've only managed to complete my elective homework and my English homework, well I suppose science too, but that was during lunch. I put everything away and grab my box of potions and head to school. Let's see, T79, it's on the fifth floor, but where. Because it's a hidden gym, it's hard to find. However, I see Ms. Lily coming down the hall.

"Um, hi, Ms. Lily," I say. "Do you know where T-79 is?" I'm still so nervous to face a teacher that I can't see her eyes. Instead, I look at her shoes, she's wearing pink snickers today.

"You're standing right in front of it, dear," she says and turns her head left. I do the same, but all I see is a painting of an old guy, probably a former headmaster of the school.

"Uh, is T79 behind this painting?" I ask. Where are you supposed to put your student ID then?

"Yup, just take out your ID and face it picture down on this painting," Ms. Lily says sweetly. She's such a well mannered teacher. She's very welcoming too, which is so nice, anything to decrease my anxiety is good enough for me.
