Matthew Lin:

Friday, March 22nd—

I'm in my last class—music—and ready to stay out in the cold forest after school for another couple of hours. It's quite nice to stay by yourself, but it's not fun when people keep distracting you.

I've been on duty ever since Wednesday with my sister and friends, and there are always these people who try to get near the forest. I can't tell if they are dumb or not and I've had the urge to let them into the forest many times. Trust me, I'm not the only one.

"Let's go," Emma says, heading in the music room after class is dismissed. She's still in her martial arts uniform that she doesn't bother to take off after she reaches home.

I stuff my books in my backpack and we make our way to the forest. Since there are four of us guarding the forest, we've split the perimeter into four sections for each of us to guard. Me and George are taking the forest area facing the school yard and the outside while Emma and Roy take the side where there are practically no one. The reason for that is because Emma cannot handle people and Roy is not the best choice when looking for someone to socialize. Emma is on my right, George is on my left, and Roy is technically across from the place I'm guarding.

"How am I supposed to do homework if I'm all alone?" Emma asks. "I won't be able to do anything."

"You mean you just don't want to do anything," I say. "The questions are so simple." For someone who has learned these stuff ages ago, it should be pretty familiar, not saying I'm a genius, but maybe I am.

"Same thing," Emma says. "I'm getting lunch today, right? What should I get?"

"Something that is not messy," I say. "Burgers? Pizza? A sandwich? I don't know, what do you want?" I'm not too picky with food—as long as there are no mushrooms in it—but if it's Selena, cooking, then I'm always up for it.

"I was thinking about surviving just on chips, but I guess a sandwich would be nice. We just went to Bobeyes this week so we should eat something healthier. How about a salad with it?"

"Sure," I say. Salads are not my favorite, but it is convenient.

As we walk towards the forest, no one is there yet so Roy and George must still be at their elective class.

We part ways when Emma heads towards the deli and I take my seat where I'm supposed to be guarding the forest. Me and Emma have been debating whether or not we should just install a security system around the forest like the one at the Morso Headquarters, but it'll be too much work for something that'll be removed after a few months and because it might be too dangerous for the people who somehow made their way into the forest.

"Hi!" I hear George shout after I've taken out my homework and started working on the last few questions. I have this habit of starting from the bottom and working my way up because I find that easier and less time consuming. I also think the questions are more simple this way for some reason.

"Hi," I respond, looking up to two gigantic figures. "Emma's getting us sandwiches and salads."

"Yummy," George says and Roy doesn't respond. Looking at them from my seated position is so weird. George looks massive, and Roy even though not as tall as George, looks big too.

"You're doing math homework?" George asks. "I better get started too."

"I'm going then," Roy says in his usual indifferent tone. "Bye." He starts walking through the forest to the other side. It's quicker, but much more dangerous of course. Walking around the forest will probably take 30 minutes and I can totally see why Roy wouldn't want to do that. Emma, on the other hand, probably goes to the teleportation portal in the mall and teleports to her area. It'll save about twenty minutes.
