{Chapter 19}
It was the next day as everyone came into the base and began to work as Melinda sat in her chair with a book in hand. She finished her paperwork that night after her and Aaron's talk, so she was reading until their was a case or until she can go home. She flipped a page and Derek looked at her with curiosity. "Don't you have paperwork to do?" Derek asked. Melinda looked up from her book before looking back down as she responded, "Actually, I finished mine last night. I didn't go home last night so I can finish mine and practice for the firearms test, even though I already know how to use a gun." "Even if I told her she can finish them today but she didn't listen." Aaron says as he walked in and stood next to her desk. Melinda looked up at him with a smirk on her face, "Like you told me last night, I'm stubborn." Aaron chuckled before walking into his office, as the team looked at Melinda with wide eyes or smirks. She looked back down at her book and continued to read before being tapped on the shoulder. "Excuse me!" Melinda looked at her, "Hey." The woman smiled lightly at the intimidating woman, "Um, I am looking for Aaron Hotchner." The team were subtly trying to eavesdrop on the conversation between the two women and they reacted when she said Aaron's full name. Melinda, however, didn't notice the issue and just pointed to his office. "His office is right there." The woman smiled and held her hand out to her, "I'm Beth." Melinda shook her hand once and let go, "Melinda." Beth smiled at her before heading to Aaron's office. Melinda looked at Daisy to see her looking at her with wide eyes, in fact, all of them were looking at her with some kind of expression. "What?" Melinda asked confused. Emily looked at her with exasperation, "Aren't you and Hotch together? Some woman who you've never met is going to talk to your man!" Melinda's eyes widened and looked at her annoyed, "I'm sorry? When have him and I been together? I'm single and he's not. Him and Beth are together. They have been for months! For the matter, my love life is none of y'all's concerns!" Melinda closed the book and plopped it on her desk before walking away from them.
Novice Agent
Aaron was in his office when a knock was heard on his door. He looked up, "Come in!" He looked back down at his paperwork as the door opened to reveal his girlfriend, Beth. He smiled at her as she walked in, "Hey! What are you doing here?" She smiled and kissed his cheek, "I just wanted to pay you a visit! The lovely woman, Melinda, told me where your office was!" Aaron looked at her with an assurance look, "I wouldn't call her Melinda to her face. She prefers May." Beth nodded with a smile, "Noted." He chuckled before there was a knock on the door and the door opened to reveal JJ. "We have a case, sir!" JJ passed him a file before heading out the door. Aaron looked at Beth with an apologetic look. Beth waved it off, "It's fine! You're saving the world! Go!" He kissed her cheek thankful to have her. She walked out and Aaron had a thought appear in his head that he didn't know how to feel about. He thought about how Beth was good to him, but she wasn't Melinda.
Novice Agent
Everyone met up in the conference room and their was tension between everyone, except Aaron, JJ, and David. Melinda was sitting in a chair with her file open as she wasn't even looking up. Aaron noticed the tension and knew to ask about it later before gesturing JJ to begin. "We are heading to Kansas. A woman was killed not too long ago." David looked at her confused, "Why are we getting called if it was just a murder?" JJ looked at him with a grim look as she clicked a button on her remote to switch to a picture of a woman in the center of what looks to be pentagram. "What is that?" Melinda asks. Spencer explained it to her, "Looks to be a pentagram. Seems like they are making a ritual of some kind." Aaron looked at the team with a serious look, "Wheels up in 5." Everyone got up and Aaron walked over to Melinda, "Hey, you alright? You and the team seemed off about something." Melinda looked around for the team for it only being them two before responding, "They asked about Beth and keep asking if I was worried about her and you. I snapped and told them that my love life is none of their business and neither is yours." Aaron frowned confused, "Why would they ask about that?" Melinda shrugged, "I don't know. I mean, I have given up on finding someone to be with. You found Beth, which I am happy for. You guys are cute together!" Aaron chuckled and smiled, "Thanks. If any man were to change your mind, he would lucky to have you." Melinda shook her head, "Please, no one wants someone like me!" She walked away as Aaron watched as she left the room to talk to Daisy. He was someone that liked her for her but she won't ever know.
