{Chapter 60}
Melinda wiped her tears as she read the letter before pulling open the drawer that he told her about. She pulled out the paperwork for Unit Chief and scanned it over before she signed it. She stood up from the desk chair and made her way to Strauss' office. She knocked on the door before walking into the room as Strauss looked up at her.
"Agent May, before you speak, I just want to say-"
"Be quiet. Take my document and let me leave." Melinda snapped
Strauss' eyes widened as she was shocked to hear the snippiness coming from her. She was always respectful towards her but with recent events, that wasn't happening anytime soon.
"I see. Have a good day." Strauss tells her
Melinda walked out of the room without a word and headed back towards Aaron's office, now hers. She wasn't going to change anything because it would make her upset. She sat down in the chair and began to work on her paperwork that has been building up for weeks. She had not been in the BAU for weeks because she couldn't face the team, until today. A knock on the door made her look up as the door opened to reveal Derek.
"Hey, you want anything? Coffee? Tea? Water?" Derek asked
Melinda leaned back in the chair as she gave him a look. He's never willingly came up to her, asking if she wants anything. She knew he was up to something and if she knew what he was doing, she was going to shut it down immediately.
"Why are you asking me? You never ask me." Melinda asked
Derek sighed as he knew she would see through his efforts to talk to her as if they have for a while now. She raised an eyebrow at him as she waited for a response from him.
"How are you actually doing? Don't lie to me. You went through a big thing, and you haven't talked to anyone about it." Derek tells her
Melinda sighed and turned to face him as he held a look of concern for the woman in front of him. He has known her for a decent amount of time but knows nothing really about her. The only people who do are SHIELD, Daisy, and Aaron.
"I'm not going to lie, it hurts, a lot. He was the only person who got me to open up. He was my reason to stay with the BAU. Now that he's gone, he's left his job and Jack in my hands." Melinda explained
"Is that why you went to Strauss' office?" Derek asked
Melinda nodded, "Aaron left me a letter in case he was to ever die, and he told me he wanted me to take his position as Unit Chief."
