Kendall pulled up to his mother house. He park his Chevy Chevelle on the street. It still look the same when he left so many years ago to go to war. He got out an look around. The neighborhood was still the same. All the houses were the same just different color. The only thing that change were the number of vehicles that litter the street. Kendall left the day after his father died. He just couldn't stay. He couldn't handle the grief of his mother and sister. He went up to the front door and open it. Hello Mother, Bea it's me Kendall. His mother dress in a simple blue dress, her hair brown with gray streaks in a tight bun. She came out of the kitchen and exclaim when she saw Kendall. Oh my goodness Kendall. She went up on her tippy toes to hug him. Kendall hug her back and mumble that he was sorry. She held his face, my dear boy it's so good to see you. It's been too long, come and sit. She led him to the kitchen table. Let momma make you something to eat,she said. Kendall sat and look around everything was the same as he remember. The photos on the walls. The table set the way he remember. The doilies she made on the coffee tables. Everything was the same just like mom. Kendall said how are you doing mom, I'm sorry for not coming sooner. That alright dear she reply your here now. He asked about his sister and was told that she was going to college and would be home soon. He talk while his mother made dinner asking about her day to day life. He quietly mention to his mom that Frank and his Father passing and the funeral was Saturday. So that's why your back Kendall's mom quietly spoke. Kendall got up and took his mom hands I'm sorry he said, for not being there for you. His mom held his face and said silly boy you were just a boy who needed to find his way. Have you she asked. Yes mom, Kendall said. Good she patted his shoulder. The door slam and Kendall could hear his sister as she holler I'm home mom. Boy does it smell, she stood and stare at Kendall and quietly spoke delicious. Kendall she walk up to him and slap him. Damn you after all these years you just waltz right in why didn't you write. She was going to slap him again when he caught her hands Kendall said, Hello sis it's good to see you to. I'm sorry I wasn't here for you. Kendall's mom shoo them out of the way. Go set the table and make amends, dinner almost done. Kendall help Bea set the table. He asked about college. Bea was mad at him. Kendall had a way of making people forget and soon Bea was laughing at his jokes. They laugh over dinner. Kendall forgotten how well his mom could cook. Tonight she cook his favorite Liver and onions with mash potatoes. Mmm Mom this takes heavenly. She smile at Kendall it's probably been a long time since you had a home cook meal. Do you have anyone special, she asked. Kendall smile no mom not yet.

Later after dinner, Kendall was washing the dishes and Bea drying. She asked will you be staying long. Kendall said no, I just came home to honor my friend Frank. Oh said Bea. Kendall put down the dish and hug his sister. He held her hands, Oh Bea you know I can't stay here. What I do who I am now, has no place for family. Bea lower her head and whisper I know.

Kendall grasp her chin gently. He met her gaze, hey it's ok, maybe while I'm here we can go see the latest show at the theatre. I work at one downtown, it'll be fun. Bea smile I would like that. She smile and said now go wipe down the counters. Kendall grab the rag from her and laugh. Yes madam.
