Remus wasn't at dinner that night, and although James had calmed down a few notches, he was still very quiet.

Dinner was unusual, they didn't talk whatsoever. Peter was too scared to talk, reserving himself to staring at his bowl of soup.

In the silence, Sirius found his eyes trailing to his brother at the Slytherin table. He was a year younger, but they still looked almost identical.

"...You Sirius black, are very terrible," the fifth year Hufflepuff that Remus had left crying all those nights before was standing in-front of him with a bowl of steaming soup in her hand.

"Your whole family is the same story, a load of freaks if you ask me," she now had the attention of the whole great hall with the sheer volume of her voice.

Sirius knew it was coming, but it still didn't stop it from burning when she threw the soup at him. He didn't know what he had done, and perhaps that's what made her angry.

Rather than listening to her disrespecting his family, Sirius got up from his seat and looked at her straight in the eye.

Sirius slapped the bowl out of her hand, without a word. He was at loss for words but that didn't stop him from seeming unaffected.

He left the hall with everyone's eyes following after him. James and Peter didn't follow after him, they didn't even look at him.

Once he was alone in the comfort of the empty halls, Sirius broke into tears. His skin burned, and everyone was talking about him.

He was humiliated.

The dorm was empty when he reached it, which he was grateful for. He wasn't even curious as to where Remus had disappeared to, it was just one of those nights.

Sirius took off his wet clothes and left them in a pile beside his bed. His chest was bright red from either the burning soup, or the embarrassment that had taken over every one of his emotions.

He took a cold shower. He cried as he thought of it again and again.

What hurt the most is that his roommates think the same things as her. He knew it too, his family was full of a bunch of loonies, but they were all he had.

Sirius didn't belong at Hogwarts, he didn't belong at home either; he had no home.

He got out of the shower, got dressed into a dry uniform, and cried until no tears came out in the comfort of his own bed.

His roommates didn't come back after supper, and Sirius couldn't care less. Lily still needed him to fill in for a prefect, so he sucked it all in and headed to the common room like nothing had happened.

"Ah, Sirius! Again, thank you for doing this for me, I really appreciate it," Lily smiled upon seeing him. Sirius smiled back.

"Do you know who I'm doing rounds with yet?" Sirius asked.

"Oh, yes, he's a 7th year Slytherin, sorry about that," Lily's smile faltered. The unknown prejudice for Slytherins was a common theme amongst the Gryffindors.

"You'll be doing rounds by the old observatory, so if you go there I think you'll find him quite easily."

Lily was right, Sirius was able to spot him very quickly, sitting against the wall with a cigarette hanging lazily from his mouth.

"You're not Remus are you," The dark haired brunette blew smoke out through his nose. Sirius shook his head, watching as he stood up from his spot by the wall.

He was quite tall, almost a full head taller than Sirius.

"I'm Trevor, did lily put you up to this?" He grinned, putting his hand out for Sirius to shake. Sirius recognized the name and the stature now, Trevor's the captain of the Slytherin quidditch team.
