Remus woke him up again the next morning, this time by him shouting at James through the bathroom door. He pounded his fist on the door angrily as if itwould open for him.
"Shut up," Sirius moaned from his bed. Remus turned around and his expression softened.
"I'm going to the prefects showers, because that prat, James, decided to steal the shower," Remus hummed, grabbing his clothes off of his bed and leaving the dorm room swiftly.
Sirius rubbed his eyes and then his stomach, noticing how hungry he had grown overnight. The night before he had planned to skip breakfast, eat on the train and use the extra time to pack his trunk.
But he was so terribly hungry that he decided against it. He hauled himself out of bed and got dressed quickly in the comfort of the room empty dorm room.
Sirius then made his way to the great hall for breakfast. He wore his school uniform, except for his cloak, even though he was allowed to wear his regular clothes, he did this because after all the time he had spent at school in his uniform, he wasn't sure what to wear once he was home with his parents.
The great hall was mostly empty, so Sirius had to sit alone, an activity that he wasn't so fond of. He grabbed himself some toast that lay on the center of the table and then he picked up the newspaper with his other hand.
Hagrid the groundskeeper, was busy hauling an abnormally large oak tree through the great hall which distracted Sirius so much that he was only able to read the headline.
Unfortunately, the title was just enough to send him on a rampage.
"SIRIUS BLACK TRANSFERS SCHOOLS AFTER DEATH OF HIS ROOMMATE." The title read. Sirius didn't think before he got up from his seat and stormed out of the great hall with the paper at hand.
The few students in the great hall all regarded him with the same pitying look. Sirius couldn't even begin to process his feelings in that moment, but one thing that he was sure of was that he felt betrayed.
He muttered the code once he reached the prefects bathroom, sending a silent thank you to James for giving him the password on his first week of Hogwarts.
The Prefects bathroom was an abnormally large bathroom that held a pool in the center that served as a bathtub. On his left there was a line of showers with permanently fogged glass sliding doors.
The steam that emitted from both the bathtub and the singular running shower was almost suffocating. Sirius tore open to the shower door on his right that had steam pouring out of the top, without so much as a knock, holding the paper up in his hand angrily.
"What the fuck," Remus shouted, frantically shielding his naked body with his hands. He then squinted to look at the paper that Sirius was so angrily waving around.
"Didn't you think me telling you not to tell James, also meant that I didn't want you to publish it in the newspaper," Sirius snapped.
Rita skeeter was the journalist who had published the story, an enemy of Sirius and his family. She loved to stick her nose in other peoples business.
"No, I didn't go talk to Rita, do you really think that I'm that low," Remus narrowed his eyes, reaching for a towel that was hanging outside of his shower.
He covered himself quickly, his eyes focused on reading the paper before him. Sirius had a knot growing in his stomach.
"Why are you lying to me? You're the only person I told," Sirius hissed his brows so narrowed that Remus was worried they would get stuck like that.
"Fuck off," Remus concluded, leaving the shower room with his towel still hooked around his waist. Rather than forgetting about the situation and moving on, Sirius did what any other black would do; spill everything.
He and James thought through his options throughout a game of chess, the two of them sunken into a pressing conversation.
"I feel like I shouldn't have yelled at him, and maybe he was telling the truth," James shrugged in response.
"I dunno, but I do think the two of you should talk," The brunette pushed his glasses up on his nose with much more force than necessary.
"I'm not apologizing, that's weird," Sirius chuckled, moving a chess piece on the board. James let a giggle slip too.
"I guess," he yawned, "I don't know what to say man, I don't want to get involved-"
Just then a large raven fluttered through the open window, swooping low over the bed to drop a letter into Sirius' hands. The two of the boys on the bed stared at it blankly, as if they already knew what it said judging from the black envelope.
"You should open that," James muttered, he himself wanted to know what it held. The darker haired boy frowned.
"Can you open it and read it to me?"
"What if it's something secret that I shouldn't know."
"Just open it," Sirius hissed, pushing it towards James. He seized the letter gladly and tore off the green wax seal.
"You fucked up," James breathed, his eyes widening at the letter. Sirius winced, leaning back on the bed frame.
"Well read it out to me," he ordered with an eager voice. James took a deep breath before spewing out the content of the letter.
It read:
To Sirius,
As you may have read in the paper, we have published an article on Andy through Rita. The reasoning we will not discuss in this letter but we will talk briefly over Christmas break.
Don't have a fit over this, it has nothing to do with you. From, mummy and daddy
Sirius' expression dropped. He had yelled at Remus and his parents had betrayed his trust.
"I'm not going home for break," he decided rapidly. James nibbled his lower lip idly.
"You cant sign up to stay at the school now," James sighed.
"Well I'm going to," he stubbornly added.
"Come and stay with my family, I can send them a letter and I'm sure that they will love to have the company," James bursted out.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," James grinned wildly, "it would be so much fun. All the kids in my neighborhood are 14 and I'm sick of hanging out with them."
And so the two of them rapidly sketched out letters to their parents explaining their plans for winter break and waiting for acceptance.
The moment that Sirius finished his letter, the door opened to the dormitory in a swift movement. The two of them went silent as they watched remus walk over to his bed with an unnerving stillness.
James stood up from the bed shortly after Remus' entry, leaving the two of them in the dorm without so much as a glare in Sirius direction.
Sirius reluctantly stood up from James bed and stared at Remus back that faced him.
"Can we talk."
"I'm busy."
"Rem-"
"I said no."
