January 1st - june

Unfortunately Sirius never got the chance to tell Remus about what had happened between him and Trevor because by the time supper rolled around Remus was already caught up in something else.

It was much like any other supper, the floating candles shining brightly as the students from every house ate their dinner, lulled by pointless conversation. Although something terrible was bound to happen, something that would shift the aim of Sirius' future.

Sirius sat with Lily that afternoon, a couple seats away from his regular group of friends, trying his best to squeeze as much information out of her as possible in regards to what had happened between Trevor and James.

"I don't really know why it happened, I was talking to Mary and then James had him against the wall and he was punching him, but then trevor grabbed a bottle and hit him in the face," She recalled, moving her arms around animatedly.

Sirius went silent for a moment, picturing it in his mind over and over again, when suddenly, Lily lept forward like she had just remembered something dire, pulling sirius from his train of thought.

"Sirius, I need to tell you something, but you can NOT tell Remus I told you," she whispered. Sirius nodded solemnly waiting for her to declare her obvious crush on Remus.

"People are talking about him, like in a bad way," she frowned. Sirius cast a curious glance down the long table at Remus, with his blonde curls that his eyes as he looked down to read a novel he had hidden under the table.

"What are they saying about him?" he muttered, furrowing his brow. It felt like a day had passed before she answered, Sirius sat on the edge of his seat with fear and anticipation.

"They're saying that hes gay," she whispered quieter like it was a dirty word, "I don't really believe it but me and James overheard a few girls from Hufflepuff talking about it."

Sirius felt his heart drop about ten feet. His hands immediately began to sweat just at the thought of their secret being out.

Had Trevor told people about what he had heard at the party? Did Lily and James hear the full extent? Sirius couldn't bear telling Remus about this rumor circulating about him, because he knew for certain that his expression would break his heart.

Sirius cast another look towards him and watched as the smile on his lips fell once Peter finished whispering something to him. Across from Remus, James watched with a knowing look, staying out of the conversation as to not stress him out any further.

Remus rose from his seat and let his utensils clatter against the glass plate before him, instantly catching the attention of anyone within a 10 foot radius. His expression was calm and composed as he made a start for the door.

"You should check up on him," Lily suggested, biting her lower lip in thought. Everybody at the Gryffindor and maybe even the Hufflepuff table knew what Remus had just been told, yet nobody spoke or giggled as they watched him leave, it was pure silence.

"I think that would only make things worse.." Sirius sighed, Lily nodded slowly in agreement.

Katherine Clearwater, from the Hufflepuff table, followed after Remus with an odd look on her face much like the one she had on her face  while she watched Sirius steal Remus from her at the party.

Allowing this to happen was one of the worst decisions Sirius had ever made in his life, because the next day he was presented with a sight that made him sick to his stomach.

Katherine clung to Remus' arm tightly as they walked through the halls of the school, her beady eyes giddy with delight. Sirius shot James a disgusted look directed at Remus and the Hufflepuff, yet only received a shrug in return.

This became a frequent sight throughout the days that followed.

She then appeared in their dorm a few times during March, her head resting on Remus' chest, on Remus' clothes, on Remus' bed. The same bed where Remus had once fumbled with Sirius' belt only months before.

The sun seemed to shine less when she was near, and Sirius just wanted to tear her to shreds. Something about her just assured Sirius that she was not a good person, but he just couldn't put his finger on it.

She gradually became a main part of their friendgroup, following them around on their trips to hogsmeade, sitting next to Remus in class, the two of them sharing pieces of parchment with little secrets on them.

Katherine even managed to make him laugh! That same laugh that he had used that night in bed, their night.

Sirius felt like things were going too fast around him, and in no time it was already the month of May. He felt sick to his stomach everytime he saw her touch his hair or his face or even glide against his arm.

She was a parasite that they needed to get rid of.

Sirius spent most of his time in their dormitory working on his homework, but even there he wasn't safe from her ear piercing giggles. Peter and James adored her, but Sirius saw her for who she really was.

Lily was distraught when she first saw them together and Mary was even worse, but their dread only lasted a couple weeks. Sirius on the other hand was always in a constant state of agony when he was in her presence and some days it felt like he would never be happy again.

Remus was happier than ever, maybe because he truly loved Katherine or maybe because the rumors about his homosexuality had died down. Marlene assured Sirius that he was just jealous and that Kathrine wasn't a bad person, but Sirius somehow still believed in the contrary.

She also added that it might start looking weird to people if he randomly hated his roommates newfound girlfriend without reason. Marlene was right about that, so he made sure to keep his hating to a minimum.

Yet on nights like this, Sirius couldn't help but audibly groan in discomfort...

"Haha! Rem you're too cute," Katherine would giggle as she pinched his cheek. Remus smiled at this softly and would gently swat her hand away.

"Let me sleep," he would always mumble, snuggling closer to her. She kissed him. She kissed him on the lips. And he kissed her back.

Sirius rolled over in his bed every night, burying his face in his pillows. There was no escape from her.

Finally, he was put to rest when the door of their dormitory opened and shut once again, signalling Katherine's departure.

Remus and Sirius never talked much, they didnt talk at all really since Katherine had entered their lives. Remus was not willing to mention what had happened that between them, and he was entirely sure that sirius wouldnt either, considering he had a reputation to maintain as a member of the black family.

May and June passed then suddenly their sixth year was dusted under the carpet. Their relationship seemed uncertain for the year that approached, but at this point, Sirius wasn't rooting for them either.
