The morning came faster than expected and Daphne hadn't left Steve's car since leaving a note at her house. While he and Dustin were devising a plan Daphne couldn't help, but feel her eyes become heavy. After pulling up to the grocery store Steve looked back to Daphne who was holding herself and had her head rested on the window.
"What do we-" Dustin started before Steve pressed a finger to his lips and pointed back at Daphne. "Come on, we just need a few things," Steve whispered after getting out of the car as quietly as he could.
The grocery store was empty except for the few workers who were there and good thing too, especially for the things they needed. "So, what's going on with you and this girl, Steve? I thought you were with Nancy?" Dustin questioned as he pushed the shopping cart, following Steve closely.
"What? Nothing's going on. I just know her from school, that's all, and plus me and Nance broke up," Steve defended. Dustin nodded as Steve grabbed three large silver buckets from the aisle they were in and then kept walking. "Really? That's all?" Dustin questioned.
"Yes, that's all Henderson, now could we drop it?" Steve huffed.
Dustin continued following Steve throughout the store going in and out of different aisles. "Doesn't seem like it. I think you like her and you just don't want to admit it," Dustin giggled.
Steve stopped in his tracks making Dustin bump him with the shopping cart. "If you'd like to know, she's just some annoying girl that I have a class with and her brother is a complete jackass. I do not like her and at this point, she's just dead weight, but it's not like I can get rid of her you saw it with your own eyes!"
Dustin giggled again, "Yeah, and it was your idea to tell her everything and now you're letting her sleep in the back of your car." Steve went quiet and glared at the boy before saying, "Whatever, Henderson. It's the only time she will ever shut up so I'm enjoying the peace and quiet." Dustin smirked as Steve stopped again and started packing the cart with packages of raw meat.
After that Steve grabbed three pairs of rubber yellow gloves with the rest of their items on their way to the cash register. The woman at the counter looked at Steve and Dustin suspiciously at first but then continued to scan the items. They made their way back to Steve's car with a still sleeping Daphne. Steve opened the trunk and started to pack the meat and buckets while Dustin sat in the front seat again with the rubber gloves.
After closing the trunk Daphne jumped awake as she looked around at her surroundings. Steve climbed back behind the steering wheel as Daphne's voice could be heard from the backseat. "Ugh, I thought it was a dream."
"Sorry, to disappoint you," Steve teased before driving away and back to Dustin's house. The sun had already risen and Daphne was glad that they didn't have to do their plan in the dark.
