"Here Daphne you can start putting up streamers while I go and get the drinks ready!" Tina smiled brightly. Vicki was in the kitchen with Tina that overlooked into the living room and was preparing snacks. Mostly just chips into bowls and that was about it. No one went to parties to eat anyway.Carol was sitting on the couch in the living room, which was to the left of the entry hall, blowing up different colored balloons. "Hey, Daphne!" Vicki smiled from the breakfast bar.
"Daphne you came!" Carol exclaimed, seeming more enthusiastic than Daphne had ever seen her in the three days that she had gotten to know her.
"Hey guys," Daphne waved at the girls and walked over to drop her bag on the couch next to Carol before going up to different walls and entrances to hang up the streamers that Tina had given her. "It's too quiet in here!" Carol complained after a while of comfortable silence and walked up to the large stereo that was set up in Tina's living room.
To Daphne, this seemed more like the Carol she knew. Carol turned on the stereo and slid in a cassette tape. The house filled with music now and all three girls started to sing along to Madonna's Material Girl. Madonna was never Daphne's taste, so she just smiled at the girls who were now distracted and started dancing in the open living room and continued to sing along.
"Come on, Daphne! Come dance with us!" Tina shouted over the music. Daphne brushed her off, but Tina wasn't one to take no for an answer. So she took Daphne's hand and dragged her into the living room with Vicki and Carol.
Daphne was doing an awkward two-step as she laughed at herself. "Okay, come on, loosen up a bit!" Tina again shouted over the music.
Daphne sighed as Tina grabbed her hands and started moving her around, making her laugh more as she still felt very stiff.
Truthfully, back in California, Daphne didn't have many friends, and none quite like this. She had heard rumors about Tina and Carol and Vicki from different people the past few days, but they didn't seem to live up to any of them. They were perfectly nice to Daphne and seemed to like her and she hated to admit it, but she was starting to like them too.
After Madonna was finished a less danceable song came on and they finished setting up with enough time to get their costumes on.
Tina led the way upstairs to her bedroom which was just as huge as her house. Her bed was in the middle of the room on the farthest wall and there were two windows on either side. Her bed was perfectly neat and on one side of the room she had a vanity with a large mirror and on the other was her closet and door to her bathroom.
Daphne tried not to stare too much as all three girls grabbed their makeup and two went into the bathroom leaving Tina and Daphne in the middle of her bedroom. "So, what are you dressing up as?" Tina asked excitedly. "Oh... uh... well." Daphne had been dreading this question the entire time she had arrived at Tina's.
