Once the sun went down it became eerily quiet in the junkyard. The fog had rolled in and the only light among them was from the moon shining through the emergency exit on the roof of the bus where Lucas was keeping watch.

Steve and Daphne sat across from one another at the bottom of the ladder. After a while, the silence was filled with Steve opening and closing and lighting the Zippo lighter in his hands. Daphne who was bored out of her mind sat and stared at the lighter. Open, light, close. Open, light, close.

Finally, Max, who was sitting down in one of the seats and facing Steve asked, "So, you really fought one of these things before?"

Daphne's trance was broken upon hearing Max's voice and she was wondering the same thing, so she, like Max, waited for Steve's answer.

Steve looked up at Max and nodded and continued playing with his lighter. "And you're like, totally, one hundred percent sure it wasn't a bear?" Max continued. Dustin was pacing around the bus and stopped and turned to Max. "Shit. Don't be an idiot. Okay? It wasn't a bear. Why are you even here if you don't believe us? Just go home."

Dustin had a good point as Daphne looked up at him as he snapped at Max. Did Daphne believe what they were telling her one hundred percent? No, she didn't, but the chance that it may be true, well, she wasn't willing to risk it.

Steve and Daphne watched as Max rose from her seat and said, "Geesh, someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?" And then went up the ladder to sit with Lucas. Daphne looked over at Steve and gave him a smirk and mouthed, "See I was right."

Steve rolled his eyes and then looked over at Dustin who had clearly not taken Daphne's advice. "That's good. Just show her you don't care," Steve smiled.

"I don't," Dustin answered coldly. Steve was silent but turned to face Dustin further until Dustin blurted, "Why are you winking, Steve? Stop."

Steve turned back to face Daphne, pretending like nothing happened, and continued to play with the lighter in his hand. Daphne leaned back against the metal wall behind her and sighed. She looked around until her eyes landed on Steve who was looking at her. "What, Harrington?"

Steve shook his head, "Nothing. Nothing, I just think it's weird." Daphne raised an eyebrow at Steve who had a stupid smile on his face. "What's weird?"

"Just the fact that you're still here. I thought you would've called your brother on me by now or something. I don't think I've seen you this long without him by your side," Steve chuckled.

"I can fight my own battles, Harrington. Plus, what my brother doesn't know won't kill him and-" Daphne stopped herself after hearing Max's faint voice from above them.

"And?" Steve wanted to hear more, but Daphne shushed him and pointed to Max and Lucas who were talking just loud enough for them to hear. "It's just... my dad's still there. So..." Max paused. Daphne listened closely realizing she was talking about her father who still lived back in California. "Why?" Lucas asked.
