While Steve, Daphne, Robin, Erica, and Dustin were driving to Dustin's Cerebro, everyone else was saying their goodbyes to Joyce, Hopper, and Murray, who were going to the Russian base to close the gate.Jonathan and Nancy were instructed to take the kids back to Murray's house, which they'd been to only once. After they knew that the others were safe at the highest point in Hawkins. So, the couple, along with Max, Eleven, Will, Mike, and Lucas, started to climb into Nancy's station wagon just outside the front entrance and as Nancy started to turn the car over it sputtered and didn't turn on.
Nancy tried again and again when Jonathan looked over worriedly. "What's wrong?"
"I don't... I don't know," Nancy answered, still trying to start the car. "You can't be serious. Come on!" She exclaimed. "Didn't your mom just buy this car?" Lucas asked from the backseat as the kids stared at Nancy.
"Yes," she sighed, "I'm sure it's fine."
"Did you leave the lights on?" Will asked in an attempt to be helpful.
"No."
"Do we have gas?" Lucas asked.
"Yes!" Nancy yelled out of irritation with all of the questions.
Frustrated, Nancy turned the key harshly. "Come on!"
Jonathan seeing this reached over to pull Nancy's hand away from the key in the ignition. "Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Just stop, stop! Pop the hood," he said and went to get out of the car. Nancy reached down below the steering wheel and opened the hood for Jonathan to inspect the engine. She climbed out of her seat to join him and figure out what was wrong with her brand-new car.
"What the hell?" Jonathan said out of confusion. "What?" Nancy asked as she stood next to him.
"The ignition cable's gone," Jonathan sighed, motioning to the engine. Suddenly, a car engine came to life in the parking lot making Nancy, Jonathan, and the kids in the Station Wagon look over at the lights shining on them.
The engine of the car roared and revved over and over again, it was unmistakable. It was Billy.
Back in the Toddfather, Steve was having a grand old time driving, but everyone was starting to get antsy. It felt like they'd been driving much longer than they should've been. Everything started to look the same with the dark lines of trees flying by every second.
Finally, Steve spoke up above the music playing on the radio. "Jesus, how far is this place man?" He asked Dustin behind him.
"Relax, we're almost there," Dustin retorted.
Daphne sighed and turned over her shoulder to the boy in the backseat. "Are you sure? I've seen nothing but trees for miles now."
"Yes, I'm sure. Why the sudden sense of doubt?" Dustin stated, making Daphne turn back around.
