After finding out about Steve's nightmares, Daphne wouldn't allow the boy to sleep alone. In return, in Steve's mind, he wouldn't allow Daphne to sleep on her own. They helped each other. The only way either of them stayed sane or got any sleep was if they were by each other's sides. Daphne's terrors soon disappeared and Steve's nightmares were becoming less and less.

As they entered a new month, living with Steve in his enormous house became Daphne's new normal. She started to love it and waking up to Steve every morning wasn't as bad as she had once made it out to be in her head. Even though they still hadn't talked about where their relationship was going.

During the night, Daphne would sneak sweet kisses on top of Steve's head before falling asleep, and Steve would return the favor in the morning. Unbeknownst to both of them.

The days were spent in each other's company and with Robin sometimes and others going to the arcade with the kids again. Just like old times. These were the only days that Daphne was able to see Max. She had told her that her father had skipped town a few days before, but it still wasn't safe for her to go back home. Just in case Neil decided to make an unexpected return. Susan and Max needed to make sure he was out of their lives for good.

After seeing her sister again on the first weekend of August, Daphne decided that she had had enough of her awkward relationship with Steve. She didn't want to waste any more time with the people and things that mattered to her. She wouldn't allow herself to.

So the next day, with no plans and after waking up in the late morning, Daphne climbed out of Steve's bed as she did most mornings and traipsed downstairs to see breakfast waiting for her.

As if on cue, Steve walked into the kitchen from outside with sweat dripping down his face and breath heavy. He was wearing an old Hawkins high t-shirt and short workout shorts, paired with long socks and his Adidas sneakers. "Morning," he greeted, out of breath.

"Went out for a run again, I assume," Daphne replied as she sat at the kitchen island, adorning a t-shirt similar to Steve's, pajama shorts, and white socks. Steve walked around her to fill a glass with water and continued to chug it down.

"Any plans for today?" Daphne questioned, as she started on her breakfast which was just slightly cold.

Steve shook his head as he leaned against the kitchen sink after regaining a steady speed of breathing. "No. Nothing today. You?" He asked.

Daphne shook her head at Steve and continued eating before they stood in silence. That damned awkward silence again. "How about we go for a swim... after this?" Daphne suggested as she pointed to her plate.

"Yeah... sure," Steve answered, clearing his throat awkwardly. Daphne gave a tight-lipped smile before Steve walked away upstairs and into his bedroom.
