Daphne's last classes of the day went by much smoother than Mrs. Moore's however she got the same introduction every time. Once the last bell rang Daphne put all the books she was given in her locker and then went to the front office to pick up Mrs. Moore's history book."Oh, here you go dear! Have a good first day?" The secretary asked. "Uh yeah... sure. Can I get my brother's book too?"
"Oh yes of course!"
The secretary handed Daphne the other, rather large history book and she tried to stuff it into her bag, but it wouldn't fit and she knew if Billy saw her with the books he'd make a fit about it and how he wasn't a "nerd". So Daphne went back to her locker and put in the extra book making a mental note to take it home at another time.
At this point, she rushed out of the school and to the parking lot to see Billy leaning against the driver-side door of his car and lighting a cigarette. She didn't see Max yet, so she wasn't as late as she thought.
"Here."
Billy held out a cigarette to his sister, which after tossing her stuff through the window of the passenger side, took it out of her brother's hand over the roof of the car.
"Lighter?" He asked. Daphne had already put the cigarette in her mouth so she shook her head and reached into her jacket pocket pulling out her own lighter. This is when she noticed Nancy again who was accompanied by none other than her douchebag of a boyfriend Steve. She watched as they walked over to a red BMW that was parked across from Billy's car and Steve get in on the driver's side.
'God of course this kid drives a BMW' Daphne scoffed to herself as her brother watched out for Max who was walking up to the car.
"Let's go," Billy glared at the redhead and went to get into his car. Daphne opened the door for Max and they both climbed in one after the other.
Billy blasted his rock music again, which Daphne quite enjoyed. When they were younger they even sang some of the songs together and still did, just not as obviously. Not that Billy would admit that and Daphne had started to believe that Billy didn't remember happy memories from their childhood anymore.
Once they were home Max went straight into her room and Billy went into his. Daphne was just relieved that they didn't argue today. Their dad and Max's mom were still out at work and wouldn't be home until later.
So with nothing better to do than start on her homework, Daphne did just that and in a few hours the sun had set and her dad was home with her stepmom. Now, normally Daphne would've hated having a stepmom and she didn't hate Susan per se. She was a kind woman, but she was by no means close to her at all. Billy didn't like Susan at all and tried his best not to be rude toward her at the expense of not being hit by his father.
She wasn't Billy's and Daphne's mom and was not like her at all. Susan was quiet and although she didn't like when their father's temper and anger boiled over, she didn't act like a mother toward her stepchildren. Susan seemed to lose hope in a relationship with them early on so there she was just simply existing in the Hargrove sibling's lives.
