"His behaviour's off. . ."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"Earlier, he was talking about how he was 'destined to stand above all others,'" I explained. "But now he's promising to protect and guide us like we're all on equal ground. . . Maybe it's just me being paranoid, but it doesn't make any sense. . ."
". . .Did you sleep at all last night?" He asked, taking on a concerned expression.
"I. . . couldn't sleep for a while, so I started walking along the shore," I recounted. "By the time I'd gotten back to the beach, Monokuma had made his morning announcement and I started heading back to my cabin when I saw Hajime. . ."
"So that's a no. . ." He summarized. "You should really get some rest."
"Maybe. . . let's finish up here for now." I suggested. We both re-entered the conversation.
As if he were waiting for our attention, Byakuya continued. "Now then, let's move on to the topic at hand, for real this time. . . I have something to show you all."
". . .Something to show us?" Hajime repeated.
"It's at Jabberwock Park at the central island. . ." He explained. "Come, follow me!"
The blonde progeny then turned and left us in the restaurant, expecting us to follow him.
"J-Just as I thought. . . He sure is forceful. . ." Hajime muttered to himself.
"Jeez. . . we may have made a mistake is choosing him as the leader. . ." Mahiru commented, following Byakuya down the stairs.
Everyone soon made similar complaints, but in the end, they all followed her actions and made their way down the stairs. Eventually, Nagito and I followed, going down the balcony stairs and across the bridge to Jabberwock Park.
As Nagito and I crossed the bridge, I couldn't help but stop midway and stare out at the sea. The sound of the ocean was. . . the very definition of relief for me. I put my hand on the railing and leaned into the sound, closing my eyes.
". . .Are you sure you're alright?" I heard Nagito ask behind me.
"I'm fine. . ." I assured. "Let's not keep everyone waiting, we can talk after."
When we arrived in the park, the empty statue podium that had previously held the 5 holy animals was now holding some kind of mechanism with a large Monokuma-shaped head sitting on the top.
"Wh-What is that. . .thing. . .?" I muttered.
"So. . . what's supposed to be here?" Akane asked, oblivious.
"'Here. . .?'" Byakuya echoed. "Really. . .? Hmph. . . If you haven't noticed it yet. . . then I was right to dismiss you all as idiots."
I studied the top of the mechanism more. There was a timer on it that I couldn't quite read. "Hey. . . do you see that?" I asked Nagito.
"See what?" He replied.
"On the top there," I pointed to the timer. "Does that say 'Days. . .Left?'"
". . .Huh," He squinted at the words. "I think so. . . And is that timer counting down. . .?"
"Why would Monokuma tell us that we could take as long as we needed and then set up a time limit. . .?" I questioned.
We hadn't noticed everyone coming to the same conclusion. Nekomaru's voice suddenly cut through the crowd.
"Could it be. . .? It better not be a bomb!" He guessed.
"A b-b-b-b-bommmmmmmb!?" Kazuichi panicked.
"If they wanted to blow up the island, they would have done so by now." Byakuya assured. "There's no need for a countdown. . ."
