-- The newest victim of this murder game: Mahiru Koizumi, The Ultimate Photographer.
I gasped as I began to comprehend what I was seeing; Mahiru was dead. No. . . Nonononono she can't be dead. . .! I was supposed to try to protect her and I failed. . .
My legs gave out and I dropped to my knees, not caring for the painful impact on my knees from the hard floor. I failed again. . . Mahiru was probably the one person other than Hajime who cared about me. And now she's gone. . .
"N-No. . ." I choked, feeling tears go down my cheeks. "Why. . . why did it have to be her. . ."
I heard Hajime's breathing start to shake as he took a nervous step back. "Wh-Why did this happen to her!?" He placed his hand on the wall for balance.
"Hey. . . Guys. . ." I finally noticed Kazuichi not far from the door we came in. "Before this. . . we were having a great time, right. . .? We were excited about going to the beach. . . We. . . were having a lot of fun. . . But. . . why. . ."
Please don't say it again. . .
"Why did something like this happen!?" He finally yelled, tears in his eyes. "Someone, tell me!"
". . .Huh?" I looked back at the door and through teary eyes was able to make out Ibuki, who quickly ran back to get the others.
I instinctively pushed myself slowly across the floor and against the wall parallel to Mahiru's body. I hugged my knees to my chest and sat there, crying, while staring at her lifeless being. I lost a sense of time going by. I became numb as I watched her face through cloudy vision hoping she would move. . . Eventually, I realized everyone from the diner had arrived, having changed out of their swimsuits. None of them had even stepped inside when they became overcome with panic and terror.
"Wh-What the hell is this!?" Akane exclaimed.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!" Mikan cried. "Wh-Why. . . Mahiru!?"
Sonia took a shakey step inside with her hands over her heart, almost as if she were afraid of it jumping out. "F-For heaven's sake, what in the world is going on. . .!?"
I heard their feet slowly begin to shuffle through the sand as they approached the doors.
". . .Ah, hold on a sec!" Chiaki halted. "Those things beneath you. . . be careful not to step on them."
Step on what. . .?
". . .Beneath?" Peko echoed.
"You know, the footprints in front of that door." She clarified. "There are footprints leading out of the beach house, right? That's probably an import. . . ant. . ."
I began to tune out their discussions. . . I knew where it would lead-- An investigation. Mahiru had been murdered, so there had to be another investigation followed by a trial to find her killer, right?
"--Lest we have another trial on our hands." Wow, great timing. You realize that when you said that line she was probably dead already, right?
Yeah, I got that part.
You just don't know when to keep your mouth shut, do you?
I guess not.
It's your fault you didn't get here in time. You didn't warn her or try to protect her in any way.
You're right.
Her death is on you.
You're right.
E v e r y t h i n g is your fault.
You're right.
". . .Dying from sickness is basically the only death that's not considered a murder." I heard Monokuma explain. "Well, it's impossible to get sick and die on this island. Not when Monomi takes such good care of people."
