Chapter 10

"Chantal, nakikinig ka ba?"

I made a quick move when I heard my mother called my name. I blinked many times to regain my focus. We were talking about something important over breakfast so everyone's paying attention except for me.

"Yes, Mommy." I lied.

"You're zoning out. Keep focused."

"Yes, I'm sorry." I nodded.

My birthday surely comes quick. It's tomorrow! Yay? I rolled my eyes, not feeling happy about it. Before I confessed, I was happy that my birthday is coming but now that I confessed, I don't know how to feel anymore.

My head was floating while on my way to school. Elias was no longer my driver from now on. I deleted him from servicing me. Inalis ko na siya sa pagiging bodyguard ko! I don't think I can stay with him in a small space anymore!

Nahihiya na lang ako! I was so desperate when I confessed to him! Ever since, I no longer show my face to him. Kapag nariyan siya ay aakyat na 'ko sa kwarto at kapag naman wala siya, doon lang ako nakakababa. But there are times when I don't have a choice. Kaya nagkikita talaga kami.

After all, we're both staying in the same house! Same environment! Same air to breathe!

I squinted my eyes to properly read something on my paper. I was answering a long quiz today. Mathematics 'yun. I don't have a choice but to self study Elias' answers on my sheets, hoping I can help myself survive the quiz!

"Chanty. Chanty," napapikit ako nang marinig ang bulong ng nasa likod ko.

Nang lumingon ako doon ay nakita ko ang kaklase kong lalaki. His name is Aki.

"Why?" I asked, whispering too.

"Ano sa number 10?" He asked me, shaking his pen while waiting.

"Uh," I looked back to my paper. "C."

"10 to 20," he added.

Masama ko siyang tinignan. How dare this guy?! Hindi ba siya nag-aral?! Ako nga kaunti na lang sasabog na ang ulo ko, pinipiga ko na nga lang para makakuha pa ng sagot! Binigay ko pa rin ang hinihingi niya. It's okay! Hindi ko din naman sigurado ang mga sagot kong 'to.

If I fail, then he also will!

The time has stopped. Isa-isang pumunta ang mga block mates ko sa unahan para ibigay ang papers nila. I stood up and stand between my block mates until I reached for the professor.

"Results will be sent through e-mail." The professor announced before letting us all go.

Tahimik akong naglakad palabas, kung saan ko hinihintay ang sundo ko. I really need my own car! It's a hassle to keep on waiting for someone to pick me up! Idagdag mo pa ang kaba dahil hindi ko naman alam kung sino ang bigla na lang susulpot para sunduin ako.

Though, I have one driver but still he can change minds and just take a leave! But he should be smart to not let Elias take his position! Kung hindi talagang mai-stress ako!

I was immediately stunned when I opened the door of my car. Mabilis na umikot ang kaba sa dibdib ko at hindi ko alam kung ano ang tamang gawin nang makita ko si Elias na nasa harap habang nakahawak ang isang kamay sa steering wheel.
