Sidharth's P.O.V.
I docked the bullet in the nick of time and it hit the sofa. My bodyguards and Daksh ran inside and pointed their guns at her. Surrounded, she looked around at them and said, "Even if every one of your people comes, I will still kill you, Sidharth Shukla." "Relax," Daksh said, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." I looked at her finger off the trigger and got up. Observing her eyes, just as she moved them away from me, I grabbed her gun and pointed it at her. She looked at me alerted and said, "Kill me today and end this because if you let me go, I will come back to get you." "Little girl, this game is only for adults. Children are not welcomed. The next time you come to kill me, come prepared. Not with a few pills and a small gun like this one," I said. I looked at Daksh and he knew his job. He held the girl and carried her out as she kept screaming and shouting. I took the entire bottle of whiskey and left the club. Sitting in my car, I drank the entire way home and dropped on my bed.
Shehnaaz's P.O.V.
The next morning, I left the house without Dad since he had to reach to work earlier than usual since he was going with Mom to Amristar. He still insisted on going to work for the first half day. Ronit, the guy from downstairs were outside his door with a young girl from the building. He kept holding her hand and trying to carry her into his apartment while the girl pushed him away uncomfortably. "Come on. I'll give you a good time," he said. "If she doesn't want to come with you, why are you forcing her? Don't you have the amount of brains to understand the meaning of no?" I said. He left her hand and she ran away. Looking at me, he said, "Then you come and enjoy with me." I was disgusted by his eyes being on me. "Learn some basic manners and have some level of respect for people. It's because of men like you, girls fear leaving their own houses. You are the worst kind of humans," I said. I turned around and was leaving when he grabbed onto my shawl and stopped me. Clenching my fists, I turned around and slapped him hard. Pointing my finger at him, I warned him, "Stay away from every girl in this world. And the next time you even think about harassing another girl, remember this slap well." "You will pay for this," he said rubbing his cheek, furious. "Go to hell," I said and left. I walked to work, proud at what I did and fearless of anything. I reached my work and crossed the road to get there. As I was about to go inside, I bounced into a man. Stepping back, I apologised and stooped down to help the man gather his files. Just as I raised my eyes to look at him, a gust of wind blew and sand flew into my eyes. I shut them and began rubbing them, standing up. "I'm sorry, I dropped your papers once more," I said. "Here you go," he said handing me a handkerchief. I took it and turned my back to the side the sand was blowing and began wiping my eyes. As I turned around to return the handkerchief, I saw three black Mercedes-Benz leaving. I dropped my shoulders and looked at them going further away. As I was entering the office, I noticed the initials on the handkerchief, 'S.S.' I drew to the conclusion that his name must start with S, just like mine.
I went to my desk and started work when the door opened and he came in. Aditya, the son of my boss, Suman ma'am. I have been secretly crushing on him ever since I first laid eyes on him but I knew that he wouldn't reciprocate the feelings since I wasn't exactly his type. In fact, I wasn't any guy's type. Along with my self respect and demand for independence, added to my fashion sense, I wasn't any man's dream girl. "Hi Shehnu," he said coming to me with a smile. "Hi," I said smiling helplessly. "Is Mom in?" He asked. I nodded. "Great," he said chuckling and went inside. I looked at him as he entered her office and shook my head. Secretly, I took out my phone and looked at myself in the camera. I didn't look as bad today. What if I ask him out for a cup of coffee? "Are you mad?" He said behind me. I jumped and looked back at him. "I need to get back those books. I need them for my case study," he said, talking on the phone. I sighed and calmed my heart. "Bye Shehnu," he said to me, leaving in a hurry. Before I could respond, he left the office and I dropped my shoulders, shaking my head. I loved when he called me Shehnu. It sounded so cute in his voice. I continued on with my work until lunch time came. Since Ma'am went to court for a hearing, I was alone in the office, taking appointments. That's when, Ronit came into the office. I frowned and my heart raced in fear now that I was there alone. In the building, I wasn't scared because I knew that if I called for help, my neighbours will come. But here was different. It had no one. He smirked and came to my desk. "Hi beautiful," he said, "My cheek is still stinging from this morning. Mind giving it a kiss to cool it down?" He rubbed his cheek in a mocking way and I knew he didn't change even after that. He leaned on the desk and nastily touched my cheek with his fingers. Disgusted, I leaned back on my chair and rolled backwards. My eyes just started to well up as I felt terrified. Just as he was about to grab my hand, the door opened and man came in. Ronit stood up straight and said, "When your Ma'am returns, pass her my message. I'll see you." He left and I sat with tears blurring my vision of the next person. I closed my eyes and sighed in relief but my tears fell down.
The man came up to me and the first thing I recognised on him was his diamond studded watch and huge ruby ring. Wiping away my tears properly with the handkerchief I received this morning, I plastered a smile on my face and asked, "How may I help you?" I looked at the man's face. He was stiff looking and held a long and strict face. His stare intimidated me. Resting a law book on my desk, he said in his deep and manly voice, "I am here to return this to Suman Mehta." "Your name, please," I said. "Sidharth," he said. "Ok, sir," I said without looking back into his eyes and took the book. I looked at his back as he left the office. Scared that Ronit will return, I locked the door and sat inside. Just as my lunch break was to come to an end, Dad called. "Shehnaaz, I have found another boy for you. You have to meet him this evening. He will come to you with Ajay. Be home early," he said. "But aren't you and Mom going to Amristar for tonight?" I said hesitantly. "So what? Ajay will be there. Your sisters will be there. Just don't state your decision based on your thinking alone. Think about your family, your sisters as well," he said. I frowned and said, "I'm not sure about this Dad. Why can't Mom at least stay with me?" "You're a grownup girl, aren't you? You boast about your independence. So, meet him alone," he said. "As you wish. But I won't compromise my principles," I said. "Just don't start judging him without knowing him," he said, "We will meet you all tomorrow." "Bye," I said and hung up. Suman ma'am returned and gave me the good news as always that she won the case. I smiled and congratulated her. "You can go home early. There isn't much again to do so, you can have your half day," she said. "Thank you ma'am," I said. I left the office and was walking home when I felt as if someone was following me. As I reached outside the housing complex, I saw two of Ronit's friends, Raja and Kushal, standing at the gate and got a bit scared. Instead of going inside, I decided to stick with the crowd. I walked with everyone until I reached a nearby park. The feeling of being followed still didn't leave me. I saw a man in a suit sitting on a bench and went up behind him. I sat down next to him and looked back to see if anyone was there. The man was busy feeding some crumbs to pigeons and I recognised him from the one being in the office earlier. Again, unknowingly, he sort of saved me from trouble. He folded the napkin and pushed it inside his pocket. As he was about to get up, I stopped him, holding his hand and requesting, "Please, sit a little while longer." He looked at my hand on his and then at me. "I don't know if you remember me but we met a while ago in the lawyer's office. There is someone following me. Please, he won't come around me once you're here. Please, stay a few minutes longer," I said. He leaned back on the bench and I sighed and looked back. There was no one. The man stare was on me again and it felt no different from before. It was intense and I felt as if he could see through my soul and read my mind. Looking at him, feeling uncomfortable, I said, "Can you please stop staring at me?" Neither did his expression changed, nor did he stop it. Someone suddenly grabbed my shoulder and I jumped, making my heart leap in fear. I looked at the person and it was Ajay, my cousin. My eyes welled up and I sighed. "Shehnaaz, what are you doing here?" He asked. "I...I'm sorry. I just came for some fresh air," I said. I wiped away my tears which welled up in sudden fear. "Why do you always apologise for things that are not your fault? I told you about this already," he said. I frowned and looked at the man on the bench. He looked straight ahead. "Thank you," I said and smiled a bit. He didn't respond or look back at me so I left with Ajay. We went home and I wasn't afraid since he was with me. As we were going up the stairs, I noticed the man again, standing outside our building and looking at it. Was he following me? I reached home and ran to my room window. The man looked at me directly. Without anything else, he turned and left. "What are you looking at?" Meeta asked coming into the room. "Nothing," I said and went to my cupboard. I took out a suit to wear tonight but she came and grabbed it away from me. "Mom gave us clear instructions to dress you up tonight. Tonight, you are wearing no suit and none of your clothes. I will lend you one of my trendy dresses and you will wear only that. You will do makeup and apply nail polish on your nails," she said. "But..." I started but she placed her finger on my lips saying, "No buts. Sonu! Let's get to work." They forcibly made me sit and began working on my face and nails. Fast forward to two hours later, Meeta gave me her dress. As I was about to go and wear the dress, the doorbell rang and Sonu exclaimed excitedly, "He is here!" She took Meeta and ran out the room.
