I woke up in my bed feeling giddy. What started as an intense argument ended with a pleasant understanding. I felt at peace about Caius, for the first time in years he wasn't my main concern. He had a sense of joy, not anxiety, he really wanted to do right by me. I wasn't going to let my guard down with him completely. I couldn't forget what he stood for and what he and his family were capable of, but I felt more relaxed with him. Maybe I could find a way to see him in person without implicating my family, that was a problem for later. I had to find Edward and make sure we were okay. I got up, showered, and got ready for the day. I skipped down the stairs struggling to hide my happiness. "Sol, can I have a word?" I felt a sense of dread as I heard Carlisle call my name. "Of course, what's up Carlisle?" He opened the door to his office and waited for me to sit on the seat across from him. "Your siblings told me what has been going on with you-" I interrupted "I owe you an apology Carlisle you have been nothing but good to me since the day I met you, and this is how I have repaid you. You are a father to me and I hope my betrayal hasn't made you think differently of me. I just don't know what's come over me." I took a deep breath after my long-winded explanation. "I was just going to ask if you were okay Sol, they told me you went into some sort of trance and expelled quite a bit of power. I know you are immensely powerful but I also know it wears on you." My eyes watered, I should've known he would not be angry with me. He was just worried for me. "I am okay, or at least I'm trying to be. I feel like I am betraying you and our family by sharing this connection with Caius. I literally had a meltdown trying to stay away from him. I don't want to stop seeing him but If you want me to stop I will do what I can." He looked at me with worry. "I would never ask you to do something so painful. I know you would never endanger us, I will support you in any decision you make. A true mate bond isn't something you can just stop, and I know you understand how fate and destiny work. Everything happens for a reason, my love for you is unconditional as is the entire family's." I felt a rush of relief. "Thank you, Carlisle, have you seen Ed? He was really upset I need to make things right." Carlisle shook his head. "He didn't come home last night, but you are his best friend. He's only taking this so hard because he is worried for you. He won't stay away long I'm sure." I hugged Carlisle and made my way to the car where Alice and Rose were waiting to head to school. Alice had a blank look on her face then a smile. "What does the future say, Al?" I said while eating a granola bar. She turned to look at me from the passenger's seat and said "Edward and Bella, the future isn't looking so grim for them anymore. They have feelings for each other, of course, Edward will try to fight it but they are meant for each other." I looked into her mind to see what she saw, it was lovely. Edward looked at her with such love and adoration. It made me smile to see him so happy. And her skin sparkled like diamonds, she was going to be a Vampire? No wonder Edward was fighting this so much, he would never wish vampirism on anyone much less the girl he loved.
Before I could ask Alice about it she spoke again. "Sol, are you blocking me from seeing your future again?" I shot her a puzzled look. "What? No, definitely not. I mean not that I know of. Show me what you see." I said quickly. I saw nothing but it was like a black cloud blocking her vision. It felt unnatural and intentional. "What the hell? Alice, I swear I have no idea why you can't see it. Don't worry about it, my powers have been so hectic lately it's probably me." She looked uneasy but nodded in agreement.
"Okay enough with the heavy mood, it's too early for that," Rose said before turning the radio on. The roads were really icy today as we pulled into the parking lot, I saw Edward standing next to Emmet's car with Jasper and Emmet. I get out quickly and put my hands in my pockets. The air is freezing this morning. I start to radiate heat in my hands to warm myself off as I walk toward Edward. "Hey, can we talk?" He looks me in the eyes and gives me one nod. "I just want to say sorry, I know you don't agree with what I'm doing, I am not asking you to support this but I don't want to lose you. I love you and you are my best friend, so can we not fight? Don't hate me okay?" He put his hands in his pockets and sighed. "I could never hate you, I don't agree with what you are doing but I will never leave you hanging. You know me, I'm nothing without my annoying other half." I elbowed him and laughed. "I'll let that one slide."
His attention was suddenly elsewhere, his eyes locked on someone. I followed his gaze and saw Bella staring back. Suddenly Alice froze and she muttered. "Oh god" in the blink of an eye a van was barreling towards Bella and Edward was gone. I was breathing heavily as I ran to the car, afraid to see Bella caught between her truck and the van, but as I arrived I saw Edward holding her and his other hand on the van.
