***TW: mentions of suicide***
I left her room quickly hiding a smile. That kiss we shared was magic, her lips were warm, soft, and sweet. Everything about her was captivating. There was no amount of telepathic meetings that could have prepared me for such an electric encounter. My throat was burning like someone had poured molten lava down it but I couldn't even be bothered by my agonizing thirst. All I could think about was her. She looked absolutely ravishing in her little green dress and her scent... lavender and coconut was oh so enticing. She was irresistible. Our connection was special and all I wanted to do at this point was grow our relationship even more, strengthen our bond and connection. I opened the door to my room and walked towards my study. I sat back in my chair and replayed the events of the evening. I replayed the moment I felt her so close I had to run to her and she just happened to be falling at the perfect moment. I listened for her heart and heard nothing, her magic was strong. I understood her reasoning or at least I was trying to learn to be more understanding for her. I was sure if she needed anything she would come to fetch me, I didn't need to listen to her every move... although I wanted to.
A loud knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts, I was so wrapped up in them that I hadn't heard anyone approaching. "Enter" I said in an irritated voice, I didn't like being bothered during my personal time. My brother Aro strode in with his usual smug look. "Dear Caius, how is your mate? I am sad I didn't get to meet her right when she arrived but I am sure I will be meeting her soon." Aro said with a smile. He walked around my study pretending like he wasn't observing my every reaction. The thought of my brother being near Solstice made me angry. I knew he always had ulterior motives. He allowed her to be here out of respect for me and our bond but I still couldn't trust him. Our status, power, and loyalty to him are all that matters to Aro. Anything that threatens him is an obstacle. If he knew my dedication to Solstice or even the type of power she held he would either seek to recruit her for the guard or eliminate her, neither option would be favorable to Sol. I know she would never serve the guard, her character and morals wouldn't allow her to and quite frankly I would never ask her to do such a thing. I respect her too much. I finally spoke up "I think you should give her some space, this is all a lot for her. I don't want to scare her off by overwhelming her." He stared at me for a moment then laughed before replying to me "Has she already made you soft brother? What is it really? Afraid I'll bite?" I clenched my jaw at his aggravating questions. He was trying to provoke me. I relaxed as much as I could and replied. "Would it be soft for me to tear your head from your body and throw it in my fireplace for asking me so many idiotic questions brother?" Now Aro let out a big laugh, it amused him to annoy me. "Oh there he is, I do love it when you jest brother. I know where to come when I need a laugh." I dug my fingernails into my armrest and the wood was cracking under my grip. "Is there anything important you came to talk about or are you just here to drive me mad?" I said between my teeth. Aro turned away from my fireplace and clasped his hand together. "I just came to check on you, make sure you didn't drain your mate of her blood. That would be a nasty situation now wouldn't it, she's so fragile in her state. It would be an awful shame if something were to happen to her, she's right to be a little overwhelmed as you say. We already know she has some sort of gift. The ability to hide her human scent and heartbeat from powerful vampires, not to mention she has some sort of telepathic ability the way she can connect your minds. Imagine how that power would manifest if she were like us brother... we could use her to our advantage. Her human life is short and insignificant she could be so much more as a vampire." I froze as he said this.
I knew he didn't care about me meeting my mate. This was about power and acquisition the same way it always was. Throughout the years we killed, pillaged, and conquered just to acquire more power. I should have known this situation wouldn't be any different for him, his only loyalty was to his power not even to his brothers. "Enough Aro. She is mine and I will handle her how I see fit. It is the law that you can not harm her because she is mine." He shot me a wicked look. "You dare throw the law in my face as if I'm not the one who wrote it? I did not say I would harm her. What I offer is a gift to you and her... eternal life. How dare you refuse me. If I didn't know any better I would say that you had something to hide. Why else would you refuse immortality for her." He spat. He was suspicious now, with reason. It didn't really make sense for me to refuse this, why wouldn't I want her to be like me? Of course, I knew that I didn't have to worry about her dying because I already knew she was immortal but he couldn't know that. "It's the principal Aro. She is mine, not yours or anyone elses. You don't get to use her as your pawn in your game of war, no matter how much you whine. She's only been here a day and you already want to put her through a bloody transformation. Have some decorum and let me enjoy her as she is." I felt vile talking about her like I owned her like she was just an object to me but this is the only way Aro would leave me alone. He grinned at me once again. "Ahh I see, you want to try the product before you decide if you want to keep her or not. That is fair enough and if that is the case you wouldn't mind showing me then... right brother?"
