Bella's Close call

We all made our way to the hospital Carlisle works since Bella's dad Charlie wanted her to be evaluated. I rode with Alice and Rose, Rose was upset her thoughts were racing. She already wasn't fond of Bella, there was a strange feeling of jealousy. She didn't see Edward in that way now of course but at one point Carlise thought Edward and Rosalie would be together. Edward never thought of Rosalie that way and in all honesty, Rose never saw him that way either, but she was the type of girl that wasn't used to rejection so it hurt her pride more than anything. And now his infatuation with Bella insulted her all over again, she saw Bella as plain and boring. She simply couldn't understand what was special about Bella, or why Ed was risking exposure for her. "What the hell is wrong with him? Someone could have seen him, obviously, she is going to question how he made it across the parking lot in less than a second." Rosalie said with a venomous tone. "Rose nobody saw him, don't overreact please," Alice said calmly. "He put our family at risk for a stupid human girl, the Volturi would kill us all if he exposed us." 

My chest got tight at the mention of the Volturi, I wondered if Caius would really kill me and my family, the thought made me sick. "Rose you know nobody saw him, you're freaking out for nothing. Would you have rather he let her die?" I snapped. She whipped into the parking lot and shot me a look. "Not everyone has a boyfriend to protect them from the wrath of the Volturi" I felt rage and hurt that she would say something like that knowing how the situation troubled me. What had happened to the sweet sister that told me not to hide from my emotions? My hands closed into fists and the temperature in the car dropped quickly. "Don't. Don't act like I'm not dedicated to this family, and don't take your fucking jealousy for Bella out on me!" The windows of the car froze, if looks could kill and I wasn't immortal Rosalie's glare would've sent me to my grave. Alice reached back for my hands "Sol stop, someone will see. She didn't mean it." 

I huffed and stepped out of the car slamming the door behind me. I ran inside looking for Edward. "Eddie, are you okay?" He looked stressed pacing in the hallway. "She's suspicious, I heard her talking to Carlisle. I don't know what came over me, I couldn't let her be harmed." I squeezed his arm. "Stop, you did the right thing. She could've died, I know you have feelings for her Ed." He froze then spoke "I need to leave her alone. I'm bad for her, the bloodlust alone is too much for me to handle. I can't think when I'm around her." All of the feelings buzzing around Edward were all too familiar to me. "Just talk to her, maybe keeping her in the dark about all of this isn't the right move." He shook his head "I don't know Sol, that would be putting her in direct danger. I couldn't do that to her." I nodded "Do whatever you think is right, but I don't need to be able to read Bella's mind to know she isn't going to let this go. There are some choices you can't make for her. I'm going to go find dad, talk to her okay?" Edward nodded and I hugged him before I went to look for my dad to see if he had any more information. I passed Rose as she barreled towards Edward angrily, I stopped and contemplated going back to defend Edward but I knew I was already agitated and I didn't want to make a scene in the hospital. Carlisle was chatting with Chief Swan when I found him "Hi dad, hello Chief Swan." Carlisle reached for me "Ah Charlie this is my youngest daughter Solstice, she and Edward are in the same grade as Bella." Chief Swan reached his hand out to shake mine. "Pleasure to meet you Solstice, are you a friend of Bellas?"

I smiled "oh um yes, I showed her around on her first day, I was hoping to chat with her before she left. I came to the hospital to make sure she was okay." He gave an awkward but kind smile, his energy was a little more relaxed now that I was here. Being around my family made him uncomfortable and he couldn't figure out why, but he felt that I was different somehow and it put him at ease. This type of reaction wasn't unusual to me. "Oh yeah, she's okay according to your dad, and thanks to your brother apparently." I slowly nodded "Yes thank goodness Ed was there to push her out of the way, I know we are all so relieved. Well, I am sorry for my interruption. I am going to go find Bella and let her know I was worried. Nice to meet you, Chief Swan, see you at home dad!" Charlie nodded and Carlise smiled and waved goodbye.

I walked down the hallway heading to the parking lot when I saw Edward and Bella talking. The conversation looked a little heated so I waited back, then Edward stormed off in the opposite direction he was upset and worried that she was onto him, leaving Bella looking confused. I walked towards her "Hi Bella, how are you feeling?" She had a blank look on her face "Oh hi Solstice, I uh I'm okay. Thanks for coming to check, you didn't have to do that. Especially since I've been giving you the cold shoulder, I'm sorry about that." I waved the statement away "Oh it's fine don't even worry, I know that Edward wasn't very nice to you at first and being around his sister wasn't your ideal good time. No hard feelings." Bella looked like she wanted to ask me something. "Is there something you wanted to say?" I hated that I couldn't just read her. She looked nervous "I don't want you to take this the wrong way but I just need to know, the relationship you have with Edward is it like your other siblings?" Now I was confused, and being able to read her mind would really be helpful right now. "I'm sorry Bella, I'm kind of confused." She looked down "I just heard that everyone in your family was like...together, Rosalie and Emmett, Alice and Jasper." My eyes got wide and I let a laugh slip "Oh my gosh no, I mean yes they are together but when Edward and I were adopted when we were so young, he's my brother and best friend nothing more. Oh my ew, why does it look like we are a thing?" She shook her head "No not really it's just everyone is coupled up except you two, I just wanted to ask, just out of curiosity." I nodded "Yeah I know what it looks like to outsiders and that may be a reason people think we are so weird, but bottom line Edward is my brother nothing more. He's all yours Bell Bell" I said mischievously and her eyes flooded with panic. "Oh no I didn't mean- I wasn't asking for that reason." I laughed "Don't worry I was kidding... mostly. Can we exchange numbers? I was hoping we could be friends now that you and my brother are... good? or whatever you guys are " She awkwardly smiled and we exchanged numbers. 

"Well it was nice chatting Bella, I have to find one of my siblings before they all ditch me here. See you later" I waved goodbye.
