I was finally home after a quiet and tense ride home with Rose and Alice. I stepped out of the car and Rose was gone in the blink of an eye. "So dramatic" I mumbled under my breath. "That's what makes her so fun to be around right?" Emmet said loudly behind me. I rolled my eyes "Yeah whatever, you better go talk her down, she's raging." Emmet laughed "oo my favorite, we always have more fun when she's angry. Don't wait up we are going to be out late for sure." He said while walking out of the door, I let out a loud groan. "God you are such a pig Em" Although he was crude, he did make me forget I was mad for a moment.
I walked through the living room and made my way to the garden. I hadn't gone out to tend to it since my meltdown, I knew I had my work cut out for me since I left it a thorny mess. As I walked out the hair on my arms and the back of my neck stood, I was the only one home now that Rose and Emmet were gone and Jasper and Alice left to go on their nightly stroll, but I didn't feel alone. The sun was going down and it was getting hard to see out into the forest. "Hello? Alice Jasper? Is that you out there?" No reply. I heard a twig snap from behind a large tree, I led the energy inside me to my hands and they began to glow with a bright blue hot light. I was breathing heavily, I closed my eyes and listened to see if I could hear anyone's thoughts but there was nothing, it was just darkness. Just like what Alice saw in my future. I threw my hands up and reinforced my barriers that I set up the first time I felt someone watching me.
I let the barrier weaken because it felt unnecessary after a while, and after my meltdown, it must've been totally destroyed. Right as I finished I heard something coming behind me fast, I spun at inhuman speed and let the energy burst from my hand, and right before it hit my target I stopped. "Fuck Jasper, I could've killed you." The blue orb of fiery energy hovered in front of him as he stood frozen. I put my hand down and it dissipated before him as I put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. "What happened? Why are you trigger happy? Afraid the Volturi has figured out how to find you?" Jasper said and I gave him a sharp look "I thought I saw something or heard something out there. I don't know if it just felt off. I am really sorry, I could've really hurt you or worse." I said quickly. He shook his head "I'm always on guard, we are products of war and hard times. Don't apologize for protecting yourself but I didn't see anyone out of the ordinary it must be nothing. I'll just announce myself next time" He said with a small laugh. "Anyways Esme is back and she brought you some food so she wanted me to come to get you." I thanked Jasper and told him I would be in shortly. I repaired the garden and tried to shake the off feeling I had but just couldn't.
I had a strange sense of impending doom that I couldn't quite figure out. I went inside, chatted with Esme, and enjoyed the food she brought me before I excused myself.
Once I was back in my room I felt sick, I felt like someone was pushing their way into my mind. It was the dark cloud again, it didn't feel like a person, it felt like darkness trying to invade my mind and incapacitate me. I fell to my knees and held my hands up to my head, "get out, get out, GET OUT '' I screamed and my mind was quiet again. Edward rushed into my room asking what was wrong and I sat on the ground dazed. "Someone, no, something dark tried to invade my mind." He looked freaked out. "Carlisle and everyone else is outside the door they are worried," Edward said quietly. I flicked my hand up and threw the door open and saw my family standing there worried sick. "I'm okay now, but now I'm convinced someone was watching me. They must've cast a hex on me before I put my wards up again. It's the only way they could've gotten so close without me knowing." Carlisle spoke up "But how? Who or what could even be powerful enough to do that to you? Who would even know how to do to such a thing?" I shrugged "I have never met anyone that could overpower me, it felt like black magic. A mere human could never cast such a hex on me, this is the real deal. The magic is ancient and dark, I have never encountered anything like it. I have only heard tales of such forces, the witches that practice this type of magic were just a scary story to me." Now Jasper spoke "Why didn't I smell or sense anyone earlier? If someone was out there we would know." I shook my head "No, not with this kind of power, whoever it was, knows I live with vampires. They were smart enough to cover their tracks. Fuck this is insane, yet again I am putting you in danger. Whatever this is I don't know how to fight it, they practice old magic that is the direct opposite of mine.
The black magic covens are said to have formed to steal magic from people like me and they nearly succeeded, I am literally the last of my kind as far as I know." Everyone stayed quiet. "We all need to stay vigilant, whatever this is, we handle it as a family," Esme said. Carlisle spoke again "Not to add to the stress but there have also been killings near here, they are saying animal attacks but I think we all know better than that. I also think you all know why this is a danger for us." I took a deep breath "I will make you all protection talismans against the dark magic, I won't let them hurt you. Look out for the smell of sulfur and blood... as for the so-called animal attacks we can't let them bring the wrong kind of attention to us right?" We all talked more about our situations and decided to add more protections to the house and not make any moves till we had more information. I spent the night making necklaces for all my family members to protect them, it was all I could do until I found the witch or witches behind this.
