We arrived at the castle late into the night after a long beautiful day together. I found myself wishing every day could be like this, just Caius and I in our own little world. Everything was so easy between us, we had a genuine understanding of each other. As we pulled up to the front of the castle I saw Jane waiting at the large door she looked nervous. She was waiting for Caius. I looked at Caius and he was no longer in a good mood, he looked severely irritated.
"Everything okay?" I asked him. He flashed me a weak smile but I could tell he was faking it. "Yes don't you worry, I'm guessing this is a work matter." He said quickly. I refrained from reading his mind because, at this point in our developing relationship, I didn't want to continue to use my powers on him wanted this to be an open honest partnership. I nodded my head trying to take his reassurance and believe that everything was okay since this morning something has been making Caius more tense than usual but I was certain that he would tell me what was happening in his own time.
As soon as the car stopped Caius zipped out of the car and was in front of Jane. Their conversation looked tense and a little heated, they continued talking and occasionally they looked my way. I just stayed in the car while they talked so I wouldn't impose. After several moments Caius came back to the car and opened the door for me. "I had a lovely day with you Sol, unfortunately, duty calls...urgently. My brother seems to not understand that I can't be tied to his schedule as I used to so he is giving me grief. Anyways I've asked Jane to escort you back to your room. I'll be gone a few hours and I know it's already late and you run on a different clock than mine but if you are still awake maybe we can talk a little more before you go to sleep?" I smile and nodded my head. "I'll wait up for you, just drop by my room after you finish with your 'urgent' business" I said.
He reached down to me and gave me a tight hug, I could tell he did want to let go and I didnt want him to. "I will see you later" He whispered into my ear and then he slowly let go of me and walked towards the entrance. In the blink of an eye, he was gone. I let out a little sigh and walked towards Jane. Her expression was deadpan per usual. "Hello, Lady Solstice." She said flatly. "Just Solstice is fine Jane." I said to her once again. She seemed annoyed but then again she always seemed annoyed. "Jane you don't have to escort me to my room, I remember how to get there." I said trying to get rid of her. I didnt mind her negative attitude most days but today I wanted to continue walking on air after spending the day with Caius. "Master Caius asked me to escort you so that is what I will do." She said in a firm tone. I rolled my eyes at her a shook my head as I walked inside the castle. "God, you are so serious all the time."
I paused and turned to face her. "Oh, I have an idea!" I said excitedly as I quickly turned to face her. "No ideas, just me walking you to your room and this being over." She said in an annoyed voice. "You can do what you want but I don't feel like going to my room quite yet." I said as I made my way down the long hallway toward Cauis's wing. Jane stood still for about thirty seconds before she groaned and borderline stomped her way toward me. It took everything in me not to laugh at her little outburst. Vampires could be so temperamental.
I walked out to the enchanting garden I discovered on my first day here and Jane followed behind me quietly. "This is master Caius's private garden. He doesn't really allow visitors." Jane said quietly as she looked around careful not to touch anything. "It's fine Jane. Caius isn't going to throw you in the dungeon or whatever it is he does to punish people around here. I came here the other day and he didn't seem bothered." I said to her. She shot me a cold glare and crossed her arms. "Well actually punishment here usually consists of Demitri and Felix tearing the offender limb from limb and setting their remains ablaze...but that's not something you would have to even contemplate because you have Caius eating out of your hand, so excuse me if I am not so keen on breaking rules like you." Jane said angrily as she stared at me with her crimson glare. I cleared my throat and stared awkwardly for a moment.
