Chapter 23 (Girl V.S. Boy)
“Reed, please just listen!”
“I’ve heard enough.”
I followed Reed through the dance, just as a slow song started playing. Great. Just perfect. “Rose is a liar! I didn’t cheat on you with Brandon! He is just my friend!” I pleaded.
I continued to follow Reed as he dashed in between tables, chairs, and couples dancing. This was supposed to be a good time for us and Rose just had to ruin it. “I don’t think I can believe you, Elle,” Reed said, sounding angry and disappointed at the same time.
“Believe me, please. I don’t know what else to say to make you believe me! It’s the plain truth! I was never with Brandon!” I screamed in frustration. A few people looked at us like we were crazy but I didn’t care.
“No, just leave me alone. This was a mistake. I should have never spoken to you. Just go back to your own crowd of popular students. I was stupid to think I could have actually gotten someone from that crowd to like me,” Reed said, without turning around to face, before walking out of the dance. He left me standing there, staring at the door he just left through.
I didn’t feel like crying. No, I was too angry for that. I would not let Rose see me cry. I would never give her that satisfaction.
Suddenly, I felt an arm around me. “Elle, are you okay?”
I turned around to face Janice, who was frowning at me. I shook my head. “No, I’m not.”
“Let’s go,” Janice stated, pushing me gently in the direction of the washroom.
Janice quickly made sure no one was in the stalls and then went back to me, giving me a hug. I hugged her back, grateful for a friend like her. Janice could be silly and boy crazy at times, but when it came to serious stuff, she was always there. “That stupid bitch, Rose,” Janice said, rolling her eyes as we pulled away.
I nodded, trying not to let my anger get the best of me. “Yeah.”
“So, you told Matthew. What happened with that?” Janice asked.
I sighed, giving off a slight smile. “Well, he believed me. Apparently there were also rumours about Rose and Caden. He broke up with her.”
Janice grinned, pretending to wipe off sweat off her forehead in a “whew” kind of way. “Finally! That took forever.”
I shrugged. “I guess. It just sucks, it feels like I ruined a relationship.”
