Chapter 3 (Girl V.S. Boy)
I went home to find my dad cooking up something. “Oh, hey, honey! I decided to make some baked chicken for us, you know, because today was your first day of school!” he said from the kitchen.
I smiled sheepishly at him as I walked in, taking a seat at the table, setting my stuff down. “Well, that is very nice, daddy but… I got invited to some party,” I said quietly.
Dad frowned at me, setting the chicken in the oven. “So soon? It was your first day back!”
I chuckled quietly. “Yeah, well, the team holds this kick off party after the first practice of the season and since I’m part of the team, I got invited to go.”
Dad furrowed his eyebrows but nodded. “Well, okay, you can go… Wait!”
I slumped back down in my chair. “Yeah?”
“I thought you said you got put on the boy’s team?” he said, raising an eyebrow.
I sighed. He caught me. “Oh, yeah…” I said, pretending I forgot about that.
Dad sighed, shaking his head. “Let’s talk,” he said, sitting down at the table with me.
I silently groaned and folded my arms up on the table. “Yes, daddy?” I said, innocently.
Dad sighed, staring at me for a little while. I drummed my fingers on the table, trying to add noise to the silence. Finally, he rolled his eyes. “Look, I know they teach you these kinds of things at school and I already know that you know these kinds of stuff by the shows you watch on TV. Like what is that show? New Jersey Shore?” he asked, frowning.
I raised a brow. “Jersey Shore,” I corrected.
Dad nodded. “Yes, that. Anyways, well… Do you really think going to this all boy’s party is a good idea? I mean, do you even really know them yet?” he asked.
“Well, one is my partner in chemistry…”
Dad looked like he was about to faint. “Well, that’s just great!” he said, holding his face in his hands.
I laughed. “Come on, I really want to get to know them!”
Dad’s head snapped up, an angry look on his face. “What do you mean ‘get to know them’?!”
My eyes widened, shaking my head. “Not like that! I meant, get to know them personality wise!”
Dad’s face softened and he let out an awkward chuckle. “Oh… Okay. Well, sorry, honey but I’m just making sure you’ll be safe. I mean, look at all your other loser boyfriends in the past.”
I rolled my eyes, thinking about all of my past relationships. All of which, ended badly. One cheated on me, one revealed that I was ‘the other girl’, one only wanted sex, and one told me that I looked too childish to be with him.
I frowned, thinking about the last one. Maybe that’s why everyone is worried about me being on the boy’s team. I looked down at my long, pin straight blonde hair. If I put it in pigtails, I’d definitely resemble a toddler. What the cherry on top was, is my eyes; my blue, doe eyed, long lashed eyes.
