Chapter 12 (Girl V.S. Boy)
“There she is, ladies and gentleman! Miss Elle Perry sporting the typical school girl look. Miss Perry, how do you pull off such a style?” Jacob asked as I walked up to him and Janice before school.
I chuckled. “I don’t know. Ask any other girl here.”
Jacob looked around, eyes wide. “Oh my word! Miss Perry, are you aware that you’ve just created a trend of school uniforms?” he asked me.
I rolled my eyes in amusement as Janice smiled softly at me. “How are you feeling?” she asked.
I shrugged. “Fine, I just don’t really want to interact with he-who-shall-not-be-named.”
“I don’t think you’ll have a problem with that,” Matthew said, walking up to us. “He texted me earlier. He’s not coming to school.”
Jacob frowned. “Why not?”
Matthew shrugged. “I don’t know. He just said that he won’t be coming to school. I didn’t ask him anything about it… You know how he is,” he said, shaking his head.
Janice turned to me, a small smile on her face. “Problem solved!”
I nodded my head slowly. Something told me that this was just not right. “Yeah… Problem solved.”
We were all hanging out at lunch, just at some random cafeteria across the street, when I noticed Matthew looking deeply into space. “Hey you, are you going to take a sip of your smoothie anytime soon?” I asked, nodding towards his untouched strawberry smoothie.
Matthew snapped out of his daze and took a sip of his drink. “What’s up, man?” Jacob asked, slapping him on the back.
Matthew shook his head. “I don’t know… I’m kind of worried.”
“About what?” Jacob asked.
Matthew sighed, dipping his straw in and out of his smoothie. “Brandon never misses school. Do you think something is wrong?” he asked.
Jacob chuckled. “Come on, this is Brandon we are talking about. He always acts like he hates our guts but at the same time, you know we are his best friends. Brandon’s just like that.”
“So what are you saying?” Matthew asked, frowning.
“What I’m saying is that Brandon is spontaneous like that. He does stuff completely out of the blue, no matter how weird it is. Just relax. I’m sure he’s fine,” Jacob said, laughing.
“Maybe you should give him a call if you are worried about him,” Janice suggested, taking a sip of her iced cappuccino.
Matthew bit his lip, staring at his cell phone for a minute, before nodding. “You know what? I will,” he said, immediately dialing up Brandon.
I stared at him the whole time as it was ringing with a nervous look. What did I have to be nervous about? Matthew was the one calling Brandon. I just had to sit back and relax.
“Brandon?” Matthew asked into the phone, sounding confused.
We all listened intently, subconsciously leaning in closer and closer to listen better. “Brandon, what’s wrong? You sound weird,” Matthew said, frowning.
