Chapter 15 (Girl V.S. Boy)
“So, Rose is back?”
“Uh huh.”
I heard both Jacob and Janice groan on the other end. Even though I first saw her just yesterday, I was already gossiping about her to Jacob and Janice. “She’s a bitch. We all saw how she treated Matthew! He just fell into her trap again. Sure, she’s hot and all but the girl has some serious issues,” Jacob said.
“And Matthew wants us to go out to dinner with him and Rose tonight,” Janice said, sounding worried.
“You guys, is she really that bad? She could be nice. I mean, would you guys leave if you are a teenaged mother or father?” I asked.
“No,” they said in unison.
I rolled my eyes. “No, really, would you?”
Janice and Jacob both hesitated before answering. “Yeah, I guess,” they said, once again in unison.
Suddenly, my phone beeped. “Oh, wait a minute. I have someone on the other line,” I said, switching to the other call.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Hey, are we still on for tonight?” Matthew asked, sounding hopeful. I could hear Rose in the background, laughing and playing with Leah.
I bit my lip, thinking. “Who is going to be there?” I asked.
“Well, Rose and the gang and me… Wait, you sound nervous… I know why you are nervous,” Matthew said.
I gulped. “You do?”
“Yeah, sure I do. I’m not an idiot, Elle. We are friends. I understand how you are feeling.”
“How do I feel?”
“You are nervous about having Brandon there,” Matthew said, as if he got it.
I let out a sigh of relief. He didn’t know what I felt. “Yeah, you’re right,” I said, feigning admission.
Matthew chuckled. “Well, no need to worry. He’s not going to be there. I called him and asked but he said he’d rather be alone for a few days. Weird, right?”
“Weird,” I agreed.
“Well, I got to go. I’ll see you tonight at 7, okay?” Matthew said.
“Yeah, bye,” I said, hanging up. I quickly got back on the other line with Jacob and Janice again. “Guys, he’s whipped.”
“That sucks. Now we have to endure the Matthew and Rose Together Again show,” Jacob said, sighing.
Jacob, Janice, and I sat at the booth, waiting for Matthew and Rose to arrive. “I bet she’s wearing something slutty,” Jacob said, looking over our heads to watch out for them.
Janice quickly gave Jacob a dirty look and slapped him on the arm. “Well, don’t look!” she scolded.
I snickered a bit and watched out for them. Even though, I didn’t know her, I felt immense dislike for Rose. Maybe because I could relate her to my own mom?
“Incoming,” Jacob mumbled under his breath.
I turned my head to see Matthew and Rose approaching. It was then that I saw Rose again, that I realized I’ve seen her around school before; I just didn’t know her name. “Hey guys, sorry if we are a bit late,” Matthew apologized, getting in the booth first before Rose.
“No, it’s fine. You are right on time,” I said, smiling politely.
“Rose, you know Janice and Jacob, right? This is Elle,” Matthew said, introducing me.
