Chapter 6 (Girl V.S. Boy)
“Alright you guys, you’ve done really great at the past few practices. We’ve had a few issues at first but thankfully managed to push them aside,” Coach Reynolds said, giving the whole team a smile.
“We are having our first game tomorrow against a school one of you may know,” Coach said, grinning at me.
I gasped. “Portwood?”
Coach nodded. “Well, the boy’s team there but yes,” he said, chuckling.
It came to mind that I wasn’t going to play against my friends, but my ex-boyfriends. “Oh,” I said, disappointed.
“We should all be ready by now. I’m guessing Brandon and Elle have a game strategy for tomorrow. Correct?” Coach asked.
“Yes, coach,” Brandon said.
“Excellent. The game is after school. We’ll pull you out of classes early with an announcement saying to change into your clothes then make your way into the gym after you have done so.”
The team nodded and did a brief Queensland Cougar cheer before walking back into the school to go home. I stayed a little behind Brandon as we walked. A week has passed since the movies and he barely said anything to me this whole time. Was he avoiding me?
I fast walked to get past him so the feeling of him avoiding me would lessen. “Elle,” I heard Brandon say.
I turned around. “Yes?”
“Do you want to come over to my house later?” he asked.
I stared at him. Did he really just ask me that? “To go over the game play!” Brandon quickly added in, sounding a bit embarrassed.
Oh. “Yeah, sure. You know where I live, right?” I asked.
Brandon nodded. “Yeah, I’ll pick you up at about 5:30.”
I nodded. “Okay, see you there.”
Suddenly, I felt an arm wrap around me and pull me back so we were walking with Brandon. “What’s this I hear about a party at Brandon’s later?” Jacob asked.
Brandon rolled his eyes. “Its captains only and it’s not a party. It’s a meeting.”
“So you and Elle are friends now, huh?” Matthew asked, smirking.
“We’re already friends, stupid,” Brandon said, shaking his head.
I grinned to myself. Despite hanging out numerous times with our friends, he’s never actually called me a friend so I had no idea if I was actually welcomed into the group by him or not. “With benefits?” Jacob asked, winking.
“Ugh! Just friends, you pig!” I cried, elbowing Jacob in the chest.
Jacob chuckled. “Kidding! But really, you guys get along now?” he asked.
“For the sake of the team, sure. We want to beat Portwood, right?” Brandon said.
“Well, this is a very special moment. Brandon and Elle getting along,” Matthew said, laughing.
“You better play good tomorrow,” Brandon said to me, trying to burn into my eyes with his.
I sighed. And just when I thought he was nice and had changed. “Yeah, I will,” I said.
