August 22nd - Prompt: Not the same
----------
"Peter?"
Peter glanced up from his book, frowning a little at the slightly worried tone to his brother's voice as Edmund wandered slowly into the room. "Yeah?" He asked.
Edmund seemed to hesitate. "Um... Can I talk to you?" He asked.
Peter seemed a little concerned at this, guessing it was something serious just by Edmunds face, what worried him the most though was tht Edmund never really talked about his feelings or stuff with other people, not before Narnia anyway...
Perhaps in the month they'd been here that had changed...?
"Yeah, course." Peter eventually breathed, patting the bed beside him.
Edmund hesitantly walked over and sat beside his brother. He was silent for a long while, before sighing. "You - You know the wound has been taking a while to heal..." He said slowly.
Peter swallowed hard, knowing which wound he was talking about instantly, and shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah." He murmured.
Edmund bit his lip. "I - I checked it this morning when I was getting dressed." He explained, sighing. "It's healed completely."
Peter looked a little releived about this, and couldn't help but smile. "That's good." He breathed. "I was beginning to think it would never heal."
"Hmmm." Edmund replied with a nod, before sighing. "It's scarred though."
Peter frowned. "Scarred?" He asked, sounding concerned again.
Edmund nodded. "There's like a white, almost silvery line there now." He murmured. "Every time I see it I can't help but shudder."
Peter's heart broke at the quiet whisper. "Listen Ed," He murmured. "It won't always be the same, the scar won't always make you shudder."
"How will it not be the same?" Edmund asked desperately. "Every time I look at it I think of what happened! I can't ignore it either, every time I don't have a shirt on, I know it's there and I always see it."
"Perhaps that'll change over time." Peter sighed. "You have to remember that it was less than a month ago, its still gonna be fresh in your mind. Just give it a year or so, perhaps then it'll be, well, not the same as it is now."
Edmund looked doubtful, but he trusted his brother enough to slowly nod his head and drop the conversion.
Peter was silent for a while, before swallowing hard. "Can I see?" He whispered.
Edmunds breath caught, before he managed to take a deep enough breath. He didn't say a word as he pulled up the shirt he was wearing, revealing the long, silvery white scar going diagonal across the left side of his stomach.
Peter took a deep breath when he saw it, and swallowed hard. "Oh Ed." He whispered, pulling his brother into a hug.
Edmund froze for a second, but eventually accepted it, burying his face agaisnt Peter's neck.
Peter sighed. "I'm so glad you're still here." He choked out, tears in his eyes.
Edmund took a deep, shuddering breath and nodded a little, reaching up to wrap his arms around his brother's waist. "So - So am I."
