August 24th - Prompt: I've got you
----------
Peter burst through the door, breathing heavy from the running he'd just done, tears in his eyes as he prayed desperately that he'd be okay.
He as in Edmund.
Scanning the small cell, Peter's heart shattered when he spotted his brother, curled into the corner of the room.
His hair was wet with sweat, he was shivering and trembling so hard it was surely making him beyond sick. Without his shirt on, Peter could see the many, many injuries he had, not to mention the shackles around both his wrists and ankles, rubbing the skin raw.
Edmund had no protection against the freezing temperature of the cell, a pair of tattered trousers being the only thing he was wearing, and just feeling the temperature, Peter feared the worst... it was too cold in the cell.
The fact Edmund was sweating though easily told Peter his brother had come down with a fever, and that was another thing to worry about.
Shaking away his thoughts, Peter dashed across the room and fell to his knees beside Edmund, immediately unlocking the chains securing him to the wall.
Edmund struggled at first, clearly terrified, but eventually his eyes connected with Peter's, brown looking into blue, and Peter's heart shattered at the truly lifeless look, there was no light to those eyes anymore, no mischievous glint that was always there, no joy and happiness, no nothing except tears.
Peter watched Edmund's eyes fill with tears, and quickly pulled him into his arms, clinging to him as tightly as he dared.
Too long he'd been away from his brother, too long Edmund had been gone, too long ago he'd been taken from him, and he would not be separated from him ever again.
Edmund curled into Peter's lap, his tears finally falling until he was left sobbing, clinging to his older brother like he'd never let go.
Peter could only imagine the pure horrors he'd experienced being in a place like this, and promised himself then and there that he was never letting Edmund out of his sight ever again, because this place had broken him, and Peter knew it took a lot to break his brother.
"I've got you." Peter whispered, burying his face in Edmunds hair. "I've got you, I'm never letting you go ever again."
Edmund didn't say anything, he just cried and clung to Peter, his grip so tight despite his weakness.
Peter swallowed hard, tears rolling down his own cheeks as he tried to reassure Edmund. "I've got you." He repeated. "I promise you're safe now, no one else is gonna hurt you, you're safe... I've got you, and I am never letting go again."
