September 3rd - Prompt: Stages of grief
----------
The five stages of grief:
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
-----------
Stage 1: Denial
Susan certainly went through a stage of denial, she didn't want to believe her siblings were gone, and she tried so hard not to, tried so hard to believe they weren't all gone, but after so long, it just wasn't possible, not matter how much she tried to deny it, she just couldn't, her siblings were gone, and there was nothing she could do to convince herself that they weren't.
Stage 2: Anger
The anger came not long after this. She'd cry frustrated tears, shout at nobody in particular, scream into her pillow until she was a sobbing mess. She didn't wanna see anyone, and got angry when her friends tried coaxing her out the house, all in all she wasn't a great person to be around after her siblings were killed, she was just angry, but everyone guessed she had a good reason, so gave her time.
Stage 3: Bargaining
In the dead of night, she would whisper to no one in particular, although in the back of her head she reckoned she had some idea of who she wanted to be talking to, begging for her siblings to come back. She would beg so hard, cry silent tears, cry loud tears, shaking her head and whisper nonsense under her breath, say that if her siblings were brought back, she'd exchange her life for theirs, she got so desperate, and it killed her.
Stage 4: Depression
She didn't speak to anyone, she stayed at home, she hardly ate, she struggled to sleep, she never even read, which was something she had enjoyed before, but she just couldn't bring herself to pick up a book. Some days, she didn't even get herself changed, she stayed in her dressing gown all day, just sat on the sofa, staring at the closed curtains which were never open anymore. Her friends were worried, but she didn't care, she couldn't care. Her siblings were dead, so what was the point?
Stage 5: Acceptance
Years later, when Susan had a Husband and kids of her own, she was able to mention her siblings, and of course her children were interested about the uncles and aunt they never got to meet.
"They died a while back." Susan said sadly. "But don't worry, I know where they are." She paused and smiled gently. "And I hope to be there one day soon."
