Better babysitter // Steve Harrington x Reader //

1983

It's been a year since I moved to Hawkins.

I had to move out because my dad got a new job as a police officer.

When I first got here I wanted to leave immediately. I didn't like this town and I didn't have any friends.

But now I like it here and I finally found some friends.

I live next to Nancy Wheeler who is my best friend and her brother Mike. Nancy was my first friend in Hawkins. She is nice, cute, and smart, she would always help me with studying but she is dating this jerk, Steve Harrington. Even though she said that they aren't dating, Barb and I could clearly see that they had something going on. 

I haven't lived here for long enough but I could tell that Steve was the typical high school popular rich kid. To put it simply I hated him.

My other best friend is Barbara Holland. She is a nerd and I like that about her. She wouldn't change for anybody. After Nancy started dating Steve, Barb and I got much closer and I learned a lot more about her.

I was now in my room getting ready to go to sleep when I heard my telephone ringing. Usually, Nancy calls me this late at night so she could talk about Steve.

I answered my phone and I was right, it was Nancy.

"Y/n you wouldn't believe what Steve just did." Nancy sounded excited. I honestly couldn't care less about Steve, but if Nancy was happy, I was happy as well.

"Tell me all about it." After talking for 2 hours about Steve I finally decided to hang up. It was getting late and tomorrow was school.

I changed into my pajamas and went to sleep.

The sound of the alarm woke me up. I remembered dreaming about Steve, it was probably because of Nancy yesterday.

I got up from my bed and I went to get ready for school. I put on the first thing that I could find in my closet.

Nancy offered me a ride to school but I refused, mostly because I know that I wouldn't have a ride home and that she would end up at Steve's house.

I grabbed my bike that was in the garage and I headed to school.

I honestly didn't really care that I don't have a driving license yet, but I am planning on getting it the next year. 

I got to school and saw Barb waiting for me in front of the bikes. I waved at her and she did the same.

"Hey, Barb where's Nancy?" I asked Barb. Nancy would often wait for me with Barb, but this time she didn't.

"I think that she hasn't come yet." I nodded and we both headed inside to our lockers that were next to each other.

After putting my stuff in the locker I decided to get to my class. I turned around I saw Nancy coming into school. I grabbed Barb's hand and we ran to her.

"So did he call?" Barb asked Nancy who jumped when she saw us.

"Keep your voice down," Nancy whispered while jokingly hitting Barb with her books.

"Oh come on Nance, you didn't keep your voice down yesterday when you were talking to me about him." I often joked about her relationship with Steve, it was fun seeing her embarrassed.

"I told you guys it's not like that. Okay, I mean, yes, he likes me, but not like that." We got to her locker and she started to put her books inside while still talking. "We just...made out a couple times."

Barb copied what Nancy said in a dreamy voice. I covered my mouth, I couldn't help but laugh at Barb. "Nance, seriously, you're gonna be so cool now, it's ridiculous," Barb said.

"You better not forget about us. I mean if you become friends with Tommy or Carol -"

Nancy interrupted me. "Oh, that's gross! Okay, I'm telling you, it was a one-time..."

Barb and I looked at each other both raising our eyebrows.

"Two-time thing." Nancy put all of her books in the locker now and looked at the piece of paper that someone put in. She grabbed it and read what it said.

I took a closer look and saw that it said something about meeting in the bathroom. "You were saying?" I asked as she smiled at me.

The bell rang signaling that it was time for class. We said goodbye and we all went to our separate classrooms.

I was in my room listening to 'Feel on baby' by The Rolling Stones. The music was so loud that I didn't hear my dad coming home until he knocked on my door.

"Hey, Y/n I need you for a second," Dad said from outside the door.

I turned down the music and went to open the door. I saw my dad standing there looking concerned. "Dad, you okay?" I asked him.

"Yeah, it's just,...we have a missing kid report and I would like for you to be more careful." 

"Yeah sure, uhm, so...who went missing?" He told me that the kid who went missing is Will Byers. I knew Will, he would often hang out with Nancy's brother Mike. They would play d&d and I would sometimes join them, so it was really heartbreaking to hear that such a sweet kid went missing.

After my dad told me about Will he went to eat dinner that my mom made. I was about to go and lay on my bed until I saw someone outside my window.

I looked outside and saw that Steve was climbing Nancy's house. I sighed and went back to my bed.
