We tried to convince Erica to help us and in exchange, she would get a bunch of ice cream.
We sat at the table as Steve brought the last ice cream for her. Erica looked down at the food in front of her. "More fudge, please." She moved the ice cream back to Steve. "Go, on." She hurried.
Steve looked at her before looking back at the ice cream that was now in front of him. He smiled weakly before taking it and heading back to put more fudge on it.
"All right." Robin grabbed the map that was next to her. "You see this?" She pointed at the room that was circled with a red marker. "This is the route you're gonna take." She moved her finger across the map, following the line that she drew. She flipped the map to the other side and followed the red line as well. "Then we just wait till the last delivery goes out tonight. Then you knock out the grate, jump down, open the door."
Erica shook her head. "Then you find out what's in those boxes?"
"Exactly." Robin put the map next to her.
Erica nodded before answering. "And you say this guard is armed."
"Yes, but he won't be there," Dustin assured.
"And booby traps?" Erica said.
"Booby traps?" Robin asked, confused.
"Lasers, spikes in the wall?" Erica answered.
"What?" Robin smiled as she looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders in response.
"You know what this half-baked plan of yours sounds like to me?" Erica leaned forward. "Child endangerment."
"Okay, Erica, listen we'll be in radio contact with you the whole-"
"Ah, ah, ah!" Erica waved her finger in front of me, shutting me up. "Child endangerment."
"Erica? Hi. Uh..." Dustin began to convince Erica to help us. "We think these Russians want to do harm to our country. Great harm. Don't you love our country?" He asked as Erica looked down at her hands.
"You can't spell 'America' without 'Erica'." Erica shook her head before taking a sip of her drink, slurping it loudly.
Dustin thought for a second. "Uh, yeah, yeah. Oddly, that's, uh, totally true."
"So do this for our country, not us. Do this for your fellow American men. Do this for America...Erica." I blurted out.
Erica raised her eyebrows as she took the last sip from her drink. She put the drink on the table before turning around to face me with a smile on her face. "I just got the chills."
I smiled back at her, nodding in response.
"Oh, yeah, from this float, not your speech."
The smile on my face immediately disappeared and I looked awkwardly down at my hands.
"Know what I love most about this country?" Erica asked, looking at us. "Capitalism. Do you know what capitalism is?" She asked, eyeing me up and down.
"Yeah, I know what capitalism is," I answered.
"It means this is a free market system," Erica explained. "Which means people get paid for their services, depending on how valuable their contributions are. And it seems to me, my ability to fit into that little vent is very, very valuable to you all." She said causing me and Dustin to look at each other. "So you want my help?" Erica asked. "This USS Butterscotch better be the first of many. And I'm talking free ice cream for life." She leaned forward before taking the cherry from her order and putting it in her mouth.
