"Dustin?" Eddie called as we followed Dustin through the dense woods. "Can you slow down? Dustin?"

"I think we're getting close," Dustin yelled while looking back at us, not noticing the lake in front of him.

I quickly grabbed his backpack, pulling him back. "Watch your step."

"Oh, man," Steve said while catching his breath. "You gotta be shitting me."

"Yeah," Dustin said, looking at the lake in front of him.

"I thought these woods were familiar." Eddie piped up.

"Lover's Lake," Robin said.

"This is confounding," Dustin said.

"There's a gate in Lover's Lake?" Max questioned.

"Whenever the Demogorgon attacked, it always left an opening." Nancy piped up. "Maybe Vecna's the same way."

"Yeah, only way to find out," Steve said.

We made our way to the first boat we saw and Eddie and Steve helped with getting it in the water.

With Steve's help, I was the first one to get on the boat. The next person to get on was Robin who placed her hands on Steve and Eddie's heads to support her balance, the one after her was Eddie who helped Nancy to get on.

Dustin was about to step in as well but Eddie stopped him. "Hey, hey, hey, you trying to sink us? This thing holds four people tops, okay?"

"You guys stay here with Max and look out for her, okay?" I piped up. "Keep an eye out for trouble."

"You keep an eye out." Dustin snapped at me. "It's my goddamn theory."

"You heard Y/n," Robin spoke up.

"Who put her in charge?" Dustin pointed at me.

"I did," Robin answered.

"Thank you," I thanked Robin. "Now, give me your compass," I said to Dustin who looked at me in disappointment before handing me the compass.

"Hey, there you go," Steve said as he threw the backpack at Dustin who caught it. He pushed the boat before stepping in as well.

"You said four," Dustin complained.

"Sorry," Steve whispered.

"Bedtime at nine, kiddos," Robin yelled as we got further away from them. "Miss you already!" She got up to wave at them.

I sighed before looking down at the compass when suddenly it began to flicker like crazy. "Guys, slow down," I said before showing the others the compass in my hand.

"Whoa," Steve said.

"Guys, what's going on?" The voice from the radio said. "Come on talk to me. What's going on?"

"Uh, Dustin, your compass has gone from wonky to wonky with a capital aah!" Robin answered the radio.

My eyes shifted to Steve who began to take off his shoes. "What are you doing?" I asked.

"Somebody's gotta go down and check this out," Steve answered. "Unless one of you four can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, then...it's gotta be me. No complaints, all right?"

"Hey, I'm not complaining," Eddie said quietly. "I do not wanna go down there."

"Well, I'm complaining," I said to Steve who took off his shirt, making me blush at the worst time. "Put your shirt on, you're not going down there."
