Once again Ben had found something right in front of their eyes that helped. The genetics lab.
Violet and Kenji were near the back part of the group. The entire building was dark and the only light that was on was the red ones.
Darius's eyes landed on a cake with eight candles lit. "What?" He wasn't the only one confused, they all were.
Violet slightly scrunched her face, "Cake is not appetizing right now."
A scream appeared from behind the table with a man shining a light on them. Yasmina had instantly held her fist up while Connor and Violet stood still, blankly staring forward at the man. Whereas everyone else screamed with their eyes shut closed.
Connor and Violet had another thing in common. They were used to getting yelled at, much much worse than that. Connor is a freshman on a varsity team. You'd be crazy to think that he has it easy because, in reality, he has it worst. Violet on the other hand had stayed on a 'retreat island' also known as boot camp which was normal to have adults shouting in your face, ordering you around.
"Not dinosaurs." The man in the white coat put the light down. "You're not dinosaurs."
"I doubt a little light would have saved you." Violet walked forward from the back and past Kenji who was hugging the wall. "But you wouldn't have something a bit more-" Her eyes landed on the cake. "Food-like. Meat? Food? Something that isn't sweet. Do you guys have jerky?"
Next thing she knew the scientist opened his drawer and threw a pack of beef jerky at her face.
Violet widely smiled at it, she kissed the bag and held it up in the air. "Oh my god, you actually have beef jerky." She looked at the guy. "Thank you."
The scientist sighed, "It's the least I can do."
Connor turned to her, staying where he was. "You're seriously talking about food, right now?"
"No, I'm asking for you, dimwit." Violet looked over her shoulder with sarcasm. "It's not like your stomach doesn't growl every two seconds." She opened the bag and picked out the small-sized beef jerky and lifted it. Violet looked at it then at Connor, she handed it to him. "You're welcome."
Connor blankly stared at the beef jerky in his hand and he only stared at it. "Yeah. Thank you." He stared at Violet with no emotion. "I feel so much better now."
In the end, Violet had settled for the cake too not that anyone was against it. Even the football jock was happily eating.
Violet used the fork to take a small piece of the cake. She tasted it and wasn't pleased. It was too sweet for her appetite.
